Edited 3 months agoI've been a fan of Def Leppard from the time I first saw the video for Photograph. I've followed their career with great interest and I've never been one to like something just because it's DL. Def Leppard thru 1987 is just about as good as it gets for me. I've read these reviews and was disappointed, as I had already ordered my copy from outside of Discogs and didn't see any until after it was on it's way. I fully expected to spin a hot circle of garbage when I put this on my turntable, and I have to say....F the haters! This record sounds amazing. I had a 1983 pressing and I did a side-by-side comparison. Either my ears or broken or this pressing is more dynamic, the soundstage is impressive. I did not have ANY of the issues described here. In fact, I'm ecstatic with my purchase. 19 bucks well spent.

Edited 11 months agoI can also confirm what others here have said. There is a sense of a veiled sound to the master. On its own not enough to concern me as my original is a cassette tape. But the left channel distortion on the end of each side is just intolerable to listen to. Not quite sure how Miles Showell put his name to it.
On a positive note the sound stage is fantastic. -
Edited one year agoSounds quite alright to my ears as far as the highs are concerned. But man, quite some distortion! Especially in the left channel. Gets even worse on the last track of each side! Guess Abbey Road doesn’t mean quality. Downright unlistenable on the last tracks! Ouch…

Acceptable in that it’s nicely presented, vinyl is flat and quiet. But that’s where it ends. As other have mentioned on here sorely lacking in the top end. Shame was expecting more from this. Decided to not let current reviewers on here cloud my decision to purchase. Should have taken note. Not a complete fail just not living up to the half speed master hype.

Every once in a while, the half speed masters will surprise me at how poor they are. This is one of those cases. As has been mentioned, there is a veil over the entire album. The top end has been muted and every song sounds lifeless. I compared it to a limited edition 2018 reissue and there is no comparison. The sound stage of this release is slightly larger, but that does not make up for the butcher job on this. This record deserves better.

Edited one year agoUnfortunately in agreement with a few others, this was underwhelming at best. Heavy distortion was prominent on both sides towards last tracks more so in the left channel. This was true of 2 copies in case it was a one off pressing flaw, it is not.
Highs are muffled. Compared to an 80s press or other recent repress I'd choose either over this.
I have a couple more versions I'll ultimately compare it to but I think it's safe to say this isn't worth the money.

Not recommended if you care about sound quality. I compared it to my US Mercury pressing, which itself doesn't sound that spectacular, but this still pales in comparison. Not even close. The "Half Speed Mastering Certificate" enclosed is a laugh-- this is trash (sorry).

Not so much a review, as a question: Has anyone noticed a runout groove "infinite loop" after the track "Billy's Got A Gun" on their copy of this record? It kind of seems like that is what I am experiencing, but the audio sounds odd and different from the original, so I'm concerned that my copy has a defect. Would really appreciate some from anyone else who has played the record through to the end of side 2.
