Duke is the tenth from fifteen Face Value. Duke contained a mix of individually-written songs and tracks that evolved from jam sessions in mid-1979, while recording took place at the end of the year. The break in activity rejuvenated the band, and they found the album an easy one to work on.
Duke was positively received by music critics, who praised the album for bridging the band's progressive rock-oriented past, such as the closing ten-minute "Duke's Travels"/"Duke's End" suite, with their more pop rock-oriented, commercially accessible direction, as displayed on the hit singles "Turn It On Again", "Duchess", and "Misunderstanding". It reached No. 11 in the US, and became their first album to reach No. 1 in the UK. It has since been certified Platinum in both the UK and US.

I think these people need to stop misleading people like myself with their prissy “2007 remasters are awful” slop. I almost didn’t buy this pressing because of what people had me believe. But I’m glad I did because it’s an amazing pressing. It’s super crisp and no surface noise. Seeing as it’s a 50+ minute album on a single lp one might think it’s either super compressed or there is a lot of inner grove distortion. That is simply not true from what I can tell. Now I will say the overall mix on this pressing *is* a bit much on the low end, but it’s not muddy as people would have you believe. And it can easily be corrected with the right EQ. Great album, great pressing and great white vinyl! -
Great pressing to my ears! Found a great looking and sounding copy for $10 so I'm pleased with it. -
Maybe flat and thin sound. Still, there is something about the sound that appeals to me. Analog and authentic. Music is 5/5.

Good pressing of a Meh record. The reviews here are for quality and Sound, so in that respect, it’s good. Especially on a really nice system. But Side 2 will make you want to kill yourself! Lol. SOOO Slow and Depressing! Definitely not an album to raise spirits. Turn It On Again and Misunderstanding are great though. -

Fun fact: the US manufactured pressings of this album on CD actually have their channels reversed!
You can tell right out of the gate in “Behind the Lines”, Mike’s guitar should be on your right side, a bit in between center/right. Here, it’s panned all the way on the left channel!
A quick fix is to flip the stereo reverse switch on your amp or receiver. -
FYI - I got Face Value on AP 45rpm Atlantic 75 and to be honest the SV version at 33rpm is 95%- 99% as good as the AP 45rpm…
… unfortunately, while many Genesis albums are now getting the AP 45 rpm treatment (including Abacab FFS), sadly Duke is not on the Atlantic 75 list 👎 -

In of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. -
I don't know why should someone buy this reissues with the 2007 mix when older pressings are cheaper and have the original (and better) mix.
I have an Italian first pressing of this album and has great bass response and dynamics, zero distortions and non-existent surface noise, probably better than the UK and US counterparts.
If you wanna listen to Genesis on vinyl original pressings will always be better than these reissues until they'll do a well made set with original mixes and 2xLPs for the 50+ minutes albums -
