Really enjoyable listening experience.
Instruments in good evidence, well separated sound stage, very silent vinyl pressing. Excellent release, really happy with that. -
I’m very happy with this reissue. I had never heard the Steve Wilson remix until purchasing this copy, but I’m really enjoying it. Also coupled with being cut by Chris Bellman, it sounds great. Disc is mostly quiet too, but not perfect. I believe this pressing might be getting overlooked due to the recent release of the 45 RPM Analogue Productions reissue. I bought this reissue to avoid spending as much as the AP reissue costs. Overall I am very happy with this copy over my original US copy. I think it is noticeably better after comparing the two. I am curious how this compares to both Kevin Gray cuts of this album and even the 2024 Bernie Grundman cut of the Steve Wilson remix from the box set. Probably won’t be doing any further investigation because I am happy with this one. I also love the alternate cover! Overall a fantastic and unexpected reissue!

I actually like the mix on this. Steven Wilson did his thing on this one. My vinyl is clean with limited noise mainly between tracks. Nice dynamics and Squires bass really drives this one.

One of the most iconic prog album, listened hundreds of time in my youth. Wilson has done a great job here with the remix: resizing the extra-sparkling elements of the original mix and removing the veil on every single detail. So, this mix sounds better today indeed, BUT it is less uniform and different than the original one. In my opinion the best version so far, but cannot be the only definitive version of the record: If you love this album get this one , but keep also the original one!

Dead quiet pressing but the Steven Wilson remaster here is wild. If you know this music well, you may find listening to this version challenging as you're expecting to hear something and then you hear something else entirely.
Keys are definitely brought up in the mix here, vocals are really sharp. It's an interesting listening experience and really quite different. -
Edited 4 months agoClearly a different mix. The challenge for me is my brain is programmed for the original mix and wants to anticipate that sound as the record plays. I find the harmony vocals and electric lead guitar are backed way off and the keyboards are the focal point, especially in Roundabout. Decent bass and drums. Would like a crisper sound on the toms. I think Wakeman benefitted the most in the remix. CB in the deadwax so the record is a quality pressing. The remix is the x-factor. If you’re adventurous, you will probably like this. If you’re after an OG sound…may want to look elsewhere.
PS: About halfway through Long Distance Runaround, Jon Andersons’ vocals skip on my copy. Despite cleaning, it’s hard to tell if it’s a skip or the remix altered the track and clipped his vocal.
