Question here - my copy does not include the SMAS-3375 in the upper left hand corner of the left gatefold, as seen in the images for this release, however every other single detail matches.

Also, the A side matrix is variant 4 and the B side matrix is variant 3. Is this considered the same release? Or do the variants need to match?

This album is full of McCartney tricks, not quality songs that used to be part of the Beatles' repertoire. 'Uncle Albert/iral Halsey' was the 'hit' of this lp, and its catchy melodies stick to your lips like cotton candy, with just as little substance. This is McCartney's second solo effort, and while he does attempt a collection of songs, there is simply no great McCartney music on this album. 'Maybe I'm Amazed' from his first solo shot retains a pop freshness to this day. I can't honestly say I want to hear any of this material ever again.

Paul fares best when he pretends he's the Beatles. 'Dear Boy' has the Fab Four feel to it. It's about the only song that I would want to hear again. 'Smile Away' is another of Paul's infantile rock songs (much like 'Helter Skelter' and 'Birthday'). The lyrics are so silly that I almost like it!

'Uncle Albert/iral Halsey' does not wear well over the years and suffers from terminal Sir Paul cuteness. 'Monkberry Moon Delight' has to be one of the dumbest songs McCartney ever recorded, both musically and lyrically. 'Back Seat of My Car' does indeed sound like some sort of 'epic', but somehow McCartney's melody here seems only manipulative. This sounds like one tired Beatle!

It's a shame when one of the best songs from a McCartney solo album is a minor little rocker like 'Eat at Home'. Plus, for me, as a Beatlemaniac since 1964, this album particular stung because it seemed to bring home the fact that McCartney's artistic peak was becoming a memory found on the last tapes of 'Abbey Road'. It was bad enough hearing Lennon sing 'I don't believe in Beatles!' McCartney's 'Ram' seems to second Lennon's stance.
