"I have an original Japanese press of Fleetwood Mac from 1977 — With the original concert ticket from their live show at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. A rare gem from that era!"
-
Edited 6 months agoI compared this pressing to a new remaster, the clear one from Walmart. The new one doesn't sound bad, but I can only crank it up to 80 and start to get distortion/, but with this press I can get the volume up to 85 and it sounds like it wants more. Fantastic pressing of this album. You can't go wrong here. It has to be in my top 20.

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977) is a raw nerve exposed, a messy, beautiful, and utterly captivating portrait of a band imploding. Recorded amidst a maelstrom of romantic entanglements and personal turmoil, the album somehow transcended the drama to become one of the best-selling records of all time, with virtually every track a contender for a greatest hits collection.
What makes Rumours so compelling is its honesty. Each song is a window into the fractured relationships within the band, with lyrics that cut deep and melodies that linger long after the music fades. Stevie Nicks' ethereal vocals on "Dreams" and "Gold Dust Woman" are haunting and vulnerable, while Lindsey Buckingham's raw anger on "Go Your Own Way" is palpable. Christine McVie provides a grounding force with her soulful vocals and pop sensibilities on tracks like "Don't Stop" and "You Make Loving Fun."
The music itself is a masterful blend of pop, rock, and folk, with each member contributing their unique talents. Buckingham's intricate guitar work adds a layer of complexity, while Mick Fleetwood's steady drumming and John McVie's melodic basslines provide a solid foundation. The production is pristine, capturing the nuances of each performance with clarity and warmth.
But beyond the technical brilliance, Rumours is an album about human connection and the complexities of love. It's a reminder that even in the midst of chaos and heartbreak, there is beauty to be found. Whether you're a longtime fan or a new listener, Rumours is an album that will stay with you long after the final notes fade away. It's a timeless classic that continues to resonate with listeners of all ages, capturing the human experience in all its messy glory. -
Okay, now that I've given this a few dedicated listenings, here's my repeated experience with my copy.
Snagged for $5 from Record Surplus in Santa Monica, dubiously marked "AS IS—". Visual inspection in store turned up VG, so For a Fiver I Got Rumours™.
After cleaning four or five times per side, the hissing and popping is so minor I hardly ever notice it, so I feel like I've gotten a fairly honest assessment of the recording quality. There are two skip points within 30 seconds of each other at the end of "Go Your Own Way," one of which is a truly magnificent loop within the guitar solo's climax, so perfectly framed that it feels somehow designed. I genuinely love it. Side 2 is, somewhat disappointingly, excellent.
Through all of that, the legendary production of this album shows clearly. Absolutely every instrument and voice is its own autonomous entity in the soundspace, working perfectly with each other, exacting and precise. The first thing I've noticed in an LP listening versus streaming, which I'm used to, is how much MORE there is! Whole instruments I didn't realize were there. Little licks and flourishes I'd never heard before. New dimensions to the outro of "Gold Dust Woman" which already always blew my mind. The funky, bouncy bass lines. Finally "getting" the hype about Mick Fleetwood's genius as a percussionist. It's amazing now to think that I had always considered Fleetwood Mac as kind of a "soft" rock band. As it turns out, I just wasn't hearing ALL of it, and it's wonderfully complex, compositionally, emotionally, sonically, taxonomically...
Anyway, if I can get repeatedly blown away by an obviously well loved 46 year old LP, then it is clearly of the highest caliber. I nominate Side 2 for Greatest Side of All Time.
5/5. Duh. -

"They were also printed with a centered number "0798" in the middle of the spine on the LP cover."
Is this number only printed in this version or could there be other versions where is the Same number in the middle of the spine? 🤔 Having Hard time To find which version I have. ☹️ -

The one to get says "mastered by Capitol" in deadwax and is one of my favorite albums in my collection. this is the one you put on to show friends what you mean when you gush about the "warmth" of the vinyl.
