question - Too Much Love Will Kill You is from the album master tape, is this the same as the version on "made in heaven" were no edits added to the version in 95

WOW, expensive purchase, but worth it, really beautiful detailed mix, good pressing sounds great. The extras are nice too, love the glossy photos and the book is very well done. Can't really fault it.

Edited 2 years agoHad the LP been sealed chances are I would not have opened it. I have 7 copies of The Miracle on vinyl and 5 on cd already. But I’m happy I did play it. First of al, it’s indeed a surprisingly good pressing. Almost dead quiet after one round on the Okki Nokki. Second, this new master is interesting. It is not as broad, detailed, punchy and immersive as the first EU press - which for me is still by far the best sounding version of this album. But it seems to be nice to drums, bass and lead vocal; it’s almost like the typical 80’s feel of the original is tempered a little - it’s a more ‘live’ sounding master and strangely sounds more like older Queen records, like say Sheer Heart Attack era. Also because Brians lead guitar is more sitting in the mix as opposed to realy popping out; then again that is something I particularly like about the original. So it’s an interesting listen for sure. And personal taste aside, it sounds MILES (pun intended) better then the dreadfull Bob Ludwig remaster(s).
TMLWKY is of course what this edition is all about. And while it is indeed the same performance and mix as on Made In Heaven, it sounds so much nicer here! MIH, the entire album, is very heavy on compression. On this track specifically there are two moments where the compression pushes the music to go into the red. There is significantly less compression used on this new LP, if any. The result is beautiful. It sounds so much more natural - you hear a real band playing here which makes for much more emotional impact. Freddie’s vocal now sounds much more delicate as well. For now, for me, this is the definitive version of the song. Very happy with this entire set. :) (Clearaudio Concept with Clearaudio MC - Clearaudio pre - NAD - B&W 603 s2) -

Edited 2 years agoReally enjoying this set. Unusual to hear Too Much Love Will Kill You on the LP after so many years without it. But it sounds good. CD2 is a revelation while CD3 was so good, I played it three times in a row. Love the 12" mixes. Most importantly, the title of the album is printed on the spine of the box (missing on Live At The Rainbow and News Of The World sets)

Question: Should reference be made in this version of the limited-edition press pack sold exclusively as a bundle on QOL or should that be a separate issued item all on its own?
-
I shelled out on this box and The Miracle Sessions (CD2) is the best thing in it. Some tracks have great bits that never made the final cut. Party with real drums is far better and it seems they took a few risks on the sessions and demos reminiscent of old Queen but airbrushed them out into Eurovision Queen! What’s baffling is that Too Much Love isn’t on the CD!!! Surely it was meant for all formats back in 1989 and not just the vinyl? The CD is the 2011 remaster again. The box is very expensive and not really worth €175 to be totally honest.
The artwork on the vinyl sleeve looks grainy and lacks the sharpness of the 1989 original. It’s cut at 1/2 speed again by Miles Showell from the Equalised U-matic master tape dated from March 1989 so not a Bob Ludwig master!
And strangely, Too Much Love doesn’t really fit into the album! Maybe that’s because we’re so used to hearing it on Made in Heaven and of course on May’s Back To The Light.
The hardback book is excellent and it’s packed with essays and rare photos, review, fan club letters etc. The envelope of photos is nice but not essential as is the poster.
The instrumentals are a bit boring as I’ve heard most before.
Alternative Miracle (CD) has the previously available 12” versions and B-Sides. I haven’t listened to the Radio interviews yet. The DVD and BluRay discs share the same content.
Boxes are getting incredibly expensive but that’s showbiz these days!
If you can live without out the full box then the 2 CD with original CD and Miracle Sessions is probably the best option. This is a nice hardback package and has new artwork on the discs and rear. -
