They aren’t lying when they say this unofficial pressing sounds fckn awesome. I’m spinning it now for the first time and I’m wholly impressed at the sound stage, separation of instruments, bass, etc. sounds amazing.

Edited one year agoCurrently also available at a record store in London, Stranger Than Paradise in Hackney, for £19 - and also on their website.

Edited one year agoCurrently in stock at Amazon.uk for around €25. And the best $25 I’ve spent recently. I don’t know quite how they’ve done it, but this is significantly better sounding than the 2006 version which I have now traded in. It’s a dead quiet pressing, flat and hits all the right frequencies with no apparent distortion. The anti-static inner is nice. The repro jacket is underwhelming but this is also the case on so many ‘official’ reissues.

Well I’m gonna have to concur with most of the reviews here. I also don’t love that it’s “unofficial” but I can’t drop $500 on a scratched OG. This album sounds great, in fact it’s perfectly free of the flaws that I’ve encountered on many “official” releases from original tapes etc and definitely miles above any blue note 75th anniversary I’ve ever had. If you want this record and can’t go the OG route this is a great way to listen to this album imo

Surprisingly good sounding pressing. I would be shocked if previous pressings sounded as good as this one does. 9/10

Edited one year agoSomeone worked very hard to get this release blocked for sale on Discogs. It's too bad. I've seen some here and there in local record stores in Berlin. It's an excellent release and of perfect quality. Do not buy the crazily-priced versions!!!!

Edited one year agoUsually I’m against bootlegs but this record is impossible to get. Found this one while strolling through Arnhem at a small record store. They had a bunch of under the radar Jazz, Fusion and Soul stuff. I picked it up the second I recognized the cover. The record was opened by the shop owner but never played. After listening to it for a couple of seconds per song I decided to pick it up. Mind you the record player at the store was a basic Numark with an overused Ortofon needle but it sounded good.
After getting home I slapped it on my Pioneer PL51a with AT-VM95SH and let it spin. After the first couple of second my jaw dropped. The purest and the most dynamic sounding repress I’ve heard in ages. The instrument separation is mind blowing. It sounds like they got it straight from the master tapes or a really high quality file. The flute, drums and the harp, oh the harp. They are right in front of you, or more like all around you. There is absolutely no static or surface noise and I haven’t even cleaned it.
Bare in mind I haven’t listened to the original but this blows the most of the original represses out of the water.
If you come by this one, don’t think about it twice. A truly amazing pressing.
The record also comes in a very nicely pressed sleeve, every letter is sharp and the colors look the same as any high quality file I could find. It even comes in a nice audiophile inner sleeve.
Never thought I would say this about a bootleg but this one is a 10/10. Take it home with you if get a chance.
Bought for €22,90 at Waaghals, Arnhem.
Keep Steady and Spinning.
