Hello friends !
Mark Smotroff on the analog planet website confirmed that this reissue of Verve by request is analog and cut by Ryan Smith.
Here is his comment :
—Poking around some notable audiophile forums out there, I noticed that some people were speculating this new edition was actually made from a digital source, given it was apparently not using the same stampers as that recent, aforementioned VMP version. Well, I checked in directly with my label s at UMe, and I can confirm firsthand that this new pressing was indeed made from analog sources. More specifically, the new lacquers for this edition of The Rubáiyát of Dorothy Ashby were cut from analog by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound — similar to the VMP edition, yes, but, again, it is a different cut that did not use the same stampers, and it was manufactured at the Third Man Pressing facility in Detroit -
Edited one year agodoes anyone know that this press and vmp press 2021 use same stamper?
same ryan smith mastering..i am curious about sound quality of two press -
Mine sounds very good, no defects alltogether. However a decent innersleeve would be nice as others already have mentioned. (Audiophile and papersleeve doesn't go well together).

This is a really good pressing and obviously unique jazz music. It is true that these releases come with paper sleeves and human whining, but the music is very interesting, pressing is very good and silent, and it is well mastered. They have done a good job on this particular title.

In Canada, this is a priced record, costlier than Tone Poets and the like. What you get is a paper inner and run-of-the-mill thin jacket and the lp is covered in flecks with some type of residue on the record. After a wash and vacuum still some noise on the record. It’s sound decent although I’ve never heard an original. Guess I’m stuck with this rather forking out the big bucks for an OG.

The man responsible for this must hate records. No plastic inner sleeve and the record pops and clicks more than thrift store finds. The dynamics are good but not better than any cd. Such a missed opertunity!
-
Lots of authentic sounding reverb. It still sounds like the early recording that it is, but very much not digital (if it is cut from digital then they did a good job).

I Have the original 1971 brazillian pressing and this one is way beter in every way. Amazing treble extension.. natural, no sibilance. Incredible details on the mids with great vocals, giving a very nice holographic soundstage with plenty of depht. Warm, smooth sounding and no noise at all. A must have for every Dorothy Fan. Even if you have it on CD or original pressing.
