referencing Ramones (LP, Album, Reissue, 180 Gram) R1 6020
Sold my original years ago but I a pretty compressed mix. Not an issue with this release. Only problem is some vocal distortion on Basement. Last song on side A but sounds like a mastering defect. Hits out of the blue and repeats. Must be unique to my pressing because someone else would have noticed this over all these years. -
Edited one month agoIn a world of pointless reissues (I'm looking your way Sire) this one is different. Having been originally issued with a hard panning of guitar and bass (on purpose) it's cool to hear everything front and center. Johnny's guitar is much more impactful in mono, well, everything thing is more impactful here. Might've been cut a little hot but I still like it a lot. And the red color is fun as well as the 7" (7" would've been more special with a company sleeve...). I will definitely listen to this version often. If the day comes they do a "modern" stereo mix of this I'll buy that too. A record of this importance deserves all three mixes, imho.
*it's important to listen to this with a proper mono signal. Easily achieved with two rca "y" cables. -
Great version here. More emphasis in the bass and kick than the digital version. Guitars are lower in the mix but still very aggressive. Vinyl from Rhino is flat, no debris, and plays perfectly. A+

Where is this version numbered? I don't see any mention of Limited edition on the pictures provided.

I bought this in 2001-2002, as a space filler until I found an original. I haven’t found an original yet, but I really don’t need to with this copy.

I have the recent mono reissues and they’re very good but damn, this thumps! Joey’s voice is ahead of Johnny’s guitars and bass and drums kick! Great EQ and soundstage. This is how the Ramones should sound!!
-
Definitely interesting to hear in mono, and it gives more of the AM radio feel they surely wanted. I'm not sure I prefer it to stereo but it's worthwhile.
