Notes
Original LP and CD versions feature the "Bowie mix."
Some copies on Embassy UK feature a different mix on some songs.
In 1996, the album was remixed under the supervision of Iggy Pop and released on CD under the Legacy series. Known as the "Iggy mix," the CD remaster features a "brickwall" style of mastering with very little dynamic range.
The original Bowie mix featured on the 2010 2xCD issue.
Both mixes were released on vinyl, with full dynamic range for Record Store Day in 2012 (The Stooges - Raw Power) and have been reissued since.
Various rough mixes of these recordings were released on The Stooges - Rough Power.

Edited 2 days agoIm not always a fan of KPG but the man has really cleaned things up here. Far less into the red in each mix than the 2019 Orange 2xLP which demands a top tracer or it becomes an overly hashy mess. The good news is KPG hasnt cleaned it with any downside of smothering the detail away. While i still dont like the inconsistent Bowie mix, the Iggy mix has arguably never been better. I even got lucky with two quiet URP pressings... NOT a given lol. But also this record is 11/10 throughout so pressing quality is much less important than usual.

Edited 2 days agoRunouts show a sneaky MOV repress!
Talk about two different mixes! The Bowie mix is too grey, flat and dry here. Moreso than the 2012 KPG cut. The Iggy mix brings the bass and colour but its very bloomy and overall murkier with instrumentation pushed back. At least it doesnt sound aneamic. On balance i prefer this disc two of the two here.
Compromising sucks though man. Somewhere in between these two mixes would be a godsend lol!
Also i will say this pressing demands a hyper elliptical/fine line or better. With my bonded elliptical its inferior to the cleaner 2012 KPG cut. With a good needle it might just be better 😳 -

A1 mix sounds like butt rest of the album sounds decent. sucks because a1 is the best track -
So there's no lossless audio version of this, in 2023? A Russian torrent site has this in lossless, but the source is www.deezer.com/en/album/400892017 which doesn't specify whether it's lossless.

Iggy Pop eventually gave in to public demand finally and agreed to the process of REMASTERING his stone cold classic, RAW POWER.
Thank goodness that he did, as it was done by the man himself, with a good assist from Bruce Dickinson, a man who knows a thing or two about records that must be played loud.
Great sleeve notes from IGGY himself and era defining photography.
The enhanced sound and clarity etc, all add up to an ultra smart reissue.
This is probably the best version, its definitely my personal version of Raw Power, but I'm pretty certain that certain Stooges fans will probably disagree, even with Iggy's personal endorsement of this excellent reissue.

If you don't want to pay a lot to track down the bass/drum heavy version of Search and Destroy you can also find it on this:https://www.discogs.sie.com/release/5118459-Iguana-De-Banda-Etiqueta-Negra-de-Lugo
Quality is a little demo-ish but it's the same version -

Is there any real reason to own this other than the novelty? Does it sound better than the original release?

I can't speak to all these variants but I CAN say the one with side 1 runout of CBS-S-31464-A-1 most definitely has the Bowie mix of Search & Destroy (evident by the large amount of reverb on the snare). -

Great sounding pressing. Honestly as good or even better than my original US pressing. Unless you have your heart set on an OG US copy, save yourself some money and buy this record and call it a day.
