Edited one year agoAfter his debut album, "Prince's" second self titled album just improved on the first one....."Prince" was only 18 or 19 when this came out, but Man!!!!!, he sounded like he was Super-Fully Grown here!!!!!!
The album starts with the INSTANT CLASSIC, "I Wanna Be Your Lover"....It was almost 6 minutes of a style we would come to know as "Minneapolis Funk", and it was FUNKY!!!!
"Why You Wanna Treat me so Bad" followed in almost the same vain, but it had a little "Rock" element to it, with "Prince" blazing his guitar...
"Sexy Dancer"...Wow!!!! Super Funky!!!!!!
"The ORIGINAL "I Feel For You" is on here as well...I Know that "Chaka Khan" made it a Mega #1 HIT, but to me, this is the BEST version...
There are 2 Slow Jams I want to mention...
"Still Waiting" is dreamy, while "When We're Dancin' Close and Slow" is an absolute standout!!!
Every song really is a WINNER, but I must warn you, this is his early work, so don't be alarmed if it sounds DIFFERENT to you (You Prince fans knows what's up, though!!!!!!).....
A PRINCE CLASSIC!!!!! -
My first Prince record I bought in 1980….and I still spin it. I still find a lot that I like about this record. Bambi is still a great rocking tune, showing Prince’s growing guitar skills.
And then to follow that with an R&B crooner in Still Waiting.
There is a lot of finesse in this record, considering it’s his second release. -

Prince breaks the mold with his second release with more commercial appeal and less carefully constructed album cuts. This album I tend to like less because of that same reason. The singles are great and will pack a dance floor...the album tracks outside of I Feel For You lack excitement however, and sound like he was trying to come up with something off the whim (When Were Dancing Close and Slow, Still Waiting, It's Gonna Be Lonely). The album tracks that creativity in I'm Yours, Crazy U and My Love Is Forever on the previous album. However after this album, Prince would be on a winning streak for years to come after this when it comes to albums as a whole. -
Great album of course, but would Still love to know why the 4:18 version of "Sexy Dancer" made it onto the domestic promo 12" rather than the full 8:50 version which (to this very day) was ONLY released in the UK on a 12".

Some of the greatest synth jamming in the world on this album! I cannot recommend it enough, be warned, the original CD copy is quite are to find nowadays.
