Was able to listen to and record this pressing back to back with this much loved pressing from 1980: https://www.discogs.sie.com/release/1139519-David-Bowie-The-Rise-And-Fall-Of-Ziggy-Stardust-And-The-Spiders-From-Mars
You cannot go wrong with either but the presentation is certainly different. The 2016 is noticeably quieter in of noise floor but at the sake of some high end crispness and Bowie's vocals. It also has a cleaner overall presentation with more defined bass and instrument separation. The 1980 pressing is more in your face with everything sounding a bit more live. Bowie's vocals jump out at you in a way the 2016 doesn't achieve. The 1980 is maybe a bit less three dimensional but it captures the essence of the music more in my opinion.
If I were to pick one I would go with a clean 1980 press but having both is a treat. I will say if you want to learn every bass line from this album go with the 2016 as you can pick out every line with ease.

As a teenager in the 1970’s, this is one of the most important albums of my formative music years. To people of my age, it's hard to underestimate what an effect Bowie had an us. He was too us what The Beatles were to a younger generation and Ziggy Stardust was a massively important album. Like the fab four, Bowie changed everything. This is a nice solid pressing, sounds very impressive and no surface that I can hear.

Edited one month agoFor context I grew up in the 90's. I listened to this 5 times and it sounds wonderful. I have never listed to Bowie before. I know all the Beatles and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin but no Bowie. In my opinion this record is right up there with the best classics. Highly recommend this press and the music. For $25 it's a steal

Edited 4 months agoThere’s plenty of surface noise between the songs but it doesn’t bug me so I guess that’s fine. Sounds pretty dynamic and Lady Stardust sounds glam as ever. No skips on ‘Star’ thankfully so yeah. And Ziggy Stardust sounds epic!! Mine came flat with no scratches

I bought this record at a ridiculous price on a visit to Edinburgh and I didn't have many expectations about the sound quality, but I'm getting an incredible surprise, this vinyl sounds really, really good.
Excellent pressing quality and sound, great dynamics and sound stage, well detailed with clear and open mids and the quality of the bass really caught my attention, well marked with a lot of punch.

Just checked mine and happy to say it is the AAA a-1 b-3 cut and does sound really good but im sure a uk og will be better. question is is it $100.00 better?
