I have 4 pressings of this album (1st UK, MOFI, Japanese pressing) and sonically this one is the most balanced and pleasent to my ear. However packaging is really poor. Hope to see and hear UHQR one day as defininitive version.

Found a 2S/2S US first press the same week I got this 40th version. Both are great, the 40th LP is an absolute stunner!

Such a great pressing of this album. Very well done Boys! A go-getter for all Bowie collectors out there.
-
Super bummed with this. My DVD got jammed at Lady Stardust on the 5.1 mixes (both DTS and Dolby versions). So frustrating. Anyone else had this issue?

Great vinyl, great DVD. It’s got the quiet mix of Starman though, like every version of this album from 1990 onwards, so my go-to version remains the 1980 green label RCA International edition with the ear-splitting morse code notes :-)

If I may add.
1) This is a damn fine remaster but no..
2) it’s NOT definitive.
Compared to my 6E/4E ORG the acoustic guitars for example are a bit thin bit bright. Also the ORG has more ‘punch’ and the vox are more distinct.
I maintain the 6E/4E IS definitive. -
Edited 5 months agoIn reference only to the DVD, this should be the definitive edition but it is not, or is it? It would be nice to have the 2003 Ken Scott remix released on CD as a stand alone reissue but... it is only available in the Five Years Box set. Personally, there is no definitive edition at this point, just the version you like best, and at this point with the myriad editions and remasters and remixes, I'm liking them all! I really like the Scott remix though... the digital out is locked to 48kHz, cowards!

Edited 3 years agoHype sticker says " 2012 Remastered Vinyl album & Audio DVD"
But, so confused with the description in this page " The vinyl is cut from the original master tapes in a 100% analog signal path."
I can see only evidence at the hoffman forum

all analogue
Returning to the original 1/4-inch tapes after 40 years for new CD and vinyl/5.1 mix DVD reissues to be released in early June, Staff – these days a long-serving mastering engineer at Air and of the MPG Mastering Group – sought to restore some of the “openness and vibrancy” that he felt had been missing from the most recent version (in which he played no part). Resisting the “desk-smashing diginess” that he perceives in some artists’ remasters, Staff set to work with a purely analogue signal path built around a Studer A80 tape machine (with custom tape replay technology from D.A.V. Electronics), an EMI Chandler EQ and a Maselec limiter. And just in case you missed the point... “no digital processing at all. AT ALL!”
But I can not find original interview source.
Many people believe that 2012 Vinyl is AAA. And 2015 "Five years Box " has identical vinyl.

I am in agreement with all the other comments; this record sounds better than any other recording of Ziggy that I've heard. I heard things I have never heard before. And, the Audio Only DVD remixes are amazing sounding as well. Highly recommend this for anyone's collection.
