The Stones’ journey into US roots rock filled with blues, soul, gospel, boogie, country & jazz influences. An homage in part to the debauchery of what rock and roll is about - sleazy, swampy rough mean dirty grimy and gritty - so much so that you can't help but feel as if you need to bathe after taking in this remarkable album. It sounds like Keef looks like now. All in all, a great rhythm n’ blues record.
For some it may takes repeated listens to enjoy this wonderfully sprawling album that comprises so many different styles & while the album is not perfect it does contains some of their most exciting material. There are some who say that, pared back, it would have probably made the greatest single straight ahead rock album of all time.
Possibly the last truly classic Stones album
