The vinyl is bass heavy compared to the CD, but the highs don't sound rolled off to me. The bass is a little less articulate than the CD. I prefer the sound of the vinyl, as the CD is quite a bit brighter. I don't mind a double album in non gatefold sleeve, but the spine has to be wider. Don't know what they were thinking with the packaging, and the discs have a solid haze of residue on them. They definitely need a cleaning.

Sure, the packaging isn't great, but the sound is damn near stellar. Clean and crisp. I really don't see any issues with this pressing, assuming you don't get some sort of lemon.

Yes, like many, mine came out of the shrink dirty and scuffed from the cheap paper sleeves. Yes, the records had some surface noise here and there. Yes, I kept it because this album rocks and there does not seem to be a better option. This is not an audiophile pressing and for $20..it was good enough for me to crank it to 11 and enjoy.

Edited 3 years agoSealed copy here and - like others said - packaging is a joke!
One third of the outer edge of C/D looks like a frikkin cogwheel (like it's melting...) and the label on C is off-centered (at least no needle bumps).
Totally expected that copy asking for mercy immediately, but I gotta it: the sound is crazy good! -
I found a used copy of this. Cleaned it up and it plays great. Quite happy with it considering some of the negative reviews.

Edited 4 years agoI don't know what troubles you guys all do have with the sound of this release. Mine plays perfect, cool dynamics. No pops or clicks. Althouth my copy is quite dusty and should be cleaned, there's nothing that spoils it's very very solid and clean sound. Great pressing.

Sound is ok, but be sure to check your copy first. The horrible packaging (inner sleeves) causes some damage tot the surface of the record. Same for this version: https://www.discogs.sie.com/Tool-Undertow/release/1618590

This is the one with "d" printed correctly on 2nd LP label, but incorrect on back cover, with plain white inner sleeves (and back cover info matching description above)? I can't seem to match this... so many REissues!
-
Packaging is horrible, 2 LPs crammed into a single LP external sleeve (internal sleeves are separate). vinyl is slightly to heavily warped due to horrid packaging, but playable. Audio seems fine however, bassy! Don't know how it compares to the original.
