Prince did the "I want to sound contemporary" thing at many stages of his career. Here is the 2015 version of that misguided-ness.
Prince trying to sound like Justin Timberlake is just plain sad, for such a talented artist.
He lost his way long before this of course, but this album serves as his ultimate "I need to be relevant" low-point. -
What is the reasoning to ban the sale of the LP versions of this just because they are bootlegs. There are bootlegs of all kinds of things on discogs. Why is this particular title not allowed??

this is the first album from Prince that i don't like. whenever he sings, or plays, it is great, but when the other guy plays it is simply wack. he has absolutely no feeling for music. his notes are so simple and stupid, that anybody will make them up as the first decision. my wife said "this guy has bought some new children type of synthesizer".
On the Art Official Age it was more balanced, so it was sounding new and still good, but here it is just an album featuring Prince, and what the main guy plays here i simply don't like at all. -
Its alright. This album sees Prince experiementing with dubstep and different arrangements than his own. Sometimes it works (Shut This Down, X's Face) as a whole it never really takes off. While there are generally good songs on here (1000 Hugs & Kisses remake, June, FallinLove2Nite) there seems to be something lacking as a whole. Some of it wants to be a extended LP from Art Official Age (This Could Be Us, Mr Nelson, X's Face was an outtake from that album), the thematic and newness in arrangement that was on Plectrum and Art Official Age is not here. it plays more like a collection of songs than a statement. A hit and run. Get your screams and be out. Bring on Phase 2.

Edited 9 years agoFantastic follow up to 2014's Art Official Age. There's no stopping this man. Prince dabbles in Electro Funk, Rock, Dub Step, Pop R&B and Dance to create yet another genre defying album. This piece of work is short and punchy, coming in at under 40 minutes. Prince's vocals sound on-point, sounding so energised, fresh and far younger than his years. All the tracks segue into each other and the outcome is spectacular.
