Edited 9 months agoWow. Such a great sounding record. Way more natural with differing range of volume and dynamics than the 2017 remaster. Much nicer to listen to than the horrid noisy 2017 pressing. What stands out on this pressing is how quietly it tracks through the grooves compared to the 2017 record. Silent.
If you can find a mint copy like I was fortunate to find don’t hesitate. -
Edited 2 years agoHaving a NM of this pressing, it has a large dynamic range, sounds airy and lush. It has a much better performance than the 2016 remaster.
This album should've been remixed to 5.1. Get rid of Waters' reverb on the vocals and put in the center channel, the sound effects and people's ambience and shouts all around you, and the acoustic guitars put nicely in wide stereo. It would sound awesome.
This album imo is better than The Wall, full of love and feelings. -
Edited 3 years agoEvery criticism of The Wall being pretentious is here. This album takes some strong points but feels like copying the same record to a lesser degree. It's hard to follow up a classic, and Floyd did it multiple times just not here. Still, a pretty OK album all around, and if you can get a VG or above copy for a max of $15 I'd recommend it to any Floyd fan. Based on what others have said, however, I'd get the 2016 re-release if it's not possible to get this original.
Pressing Quality: my copy is pretty flat, somewhat quiet actually in the lower parts. A great pressing from what I can tell, will edit if I hear anything that's off.
Album Rating: 7/10
Pressing Quality: 8-8.5/10

I have to confess that I did not listen very ionately to this release. I think very few people regard this as their favorite Pink Floyd album. With that said I didnt feel much over the mastering or pressing. I would put my money on the newer 2016 re release if anything. I can not speak for them but from what I hear almost all the 2016 re releases were brilliantly done, so unless you are really looking to save money or dont care too much about sound you should look into those instead.
