The pressing I have of this album is almost perfect, couple of pops here and there, but overall a great clear and dynamic sound, must have got lucky with this one. The music is great and one of there better album for me, been listening them for years now and they just keep getting better.
-
My copy is really noisy, lots of pops & clicks out of the wrapper. I am going to give it an ultrasonic cleaning and see if that improves the experience. I will report back.😎. The Music is amazing otherwise.
-
I like the album and I am not disappointed with the quality of the pressing. With GZ quality varies and in this case it seems I was lucky. Still at the end of each side a lot of pops and plops, but it is after the music has ended.

First time listening to this in a bit. It's a great album to me at least. Its up there as one of their better overall albums.
-
the album that gave U2 huge publicity, for the wrong reasons. if you forget all the fuss and just listen to the album, its quite good and much better than the previous one. the white vinyl i got recently is a nightmare to listen to,full of pops and clacks. i never understood why invisible was not on the final album since it was not bad, and sure not worse than many other tracks here.

IMO this album is poorly mastered for vinyl. Lots of sibilance and saturation, specially in disc 1. Side 4 (45rpm version of The Crystal Ballroom) sounds great though.
-
Edited 4 years agoMy copy also doesn't sound great, and has quite a bit of sibilance which is off putting and loud crackles in places. Can anyone recommend the black Vinyl pressing?
-
Does anybody else have a copy with annoying non-fill at the very end of "The Troubles" as it is fading? Try as I might I just can't seem to find a clean and quiet copy of this album on vinyl...

I am U2 fan and have all their albums in CD format. This year I have decided to go vinyl so I am buying only vinyl albums now, mainly due to “loudness wars”...but I will check first how it sounds before opening my wallet after this U2 disaster. I bought this record just recently. When I heard it for the first time I thought something has happened to my cartridge! I have immediately swapped the record with the one that sounds good from my small collection….and it played as it should, so the cartridge was OK. I realized that U2 record is bad, very bad. For technical reasons not worth a penny. I must specify this statement. The record is pressed OK, no noise, no pops, no warps, nothing, it is pristine. It plays absolutely quiet. Music sounds very nice, the instruments, the clarity and the space is really excellent. But Bono’s vocal sounds absolutely terrible. It is totally distorted and an unbelievable amount of sibilance is there. It is unlistenable (at least when Bono sings). I have never heard anything that bad. I have ed the digital version in wav format. That is better in of sibilance and distortion (vocal), but still not sounding okay, not clean. It looks like they did not care at all about mastering for vinyl……as it is obvious no one from the band nor their responsible personnel gives a shit how does their album, their work sounds….When I am listening to my dad’s old records…for instance Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Led Zeppelin you think they are in the room, they play for you…..When you play this U2 rubbish you have to get out of the room! :(
