Just bought this off ebay at a decent price. Quality beats all the LPs and CDs out there. Worth the purchase.

Agreeing with GlynyrdSkynyrd: This is an extraordinary tape. I have never heard drums, and especially cymbals, sound so real on my system, or possibly on any system. It's especially noticeable during the drum solo on "Take Five". The sense of the body and reverberation of the toms is uncanny, even though the drums are hard left in the mix. The sax also sounds incredible. Bass is often really impressive on tape, and it is here, too. Oh, and there's the piano, which is bright and deep at the same time.

If you're wondering whether it's worth shelling out for this one, it definitely is, assuming you can find a tape in good condition. (Mine, as it happens, is missing the first note of "Blue Rondo". Probably a manufacturing defect, as there is plenty of the tape there. But that's not too bad.)

PS Deck is a Technics RS-1500US. Details on the rest of the system linked off my profile.

My US 1959 first edition reel tape sounds phenomenal. I can't go back in time, but to my ears the audio on this tape has held up extremely well. It sounded great on my Akai X – 200 D, I can only imagine what it would sound like on a high end deck.

Anyone knows how this tape sounds compared to the japanese release of this reel?
