I don't think this is his best, but it is Lee Morgan's most famous work, and essential in any jazz collection. All the tunes are self penned, and other than the enduring title track, which has more of a soulful, Latin flavour, it's typically solid Hard Bop that you would expect from Morgan.

Edited 17 years agoMaybe it's me, but Totem Pole (Alternate Take)is one of the dopest upbeat tunes I heard in a while (one other fav is Along Came Betty from Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin'). Magic, not sure why it was not issued as the original.
