Paid a pretty penny for a sealed copy, but received a bootleg. Fortunately the seller is offering a full refund. The sealed cover appears legitimate, so buyers beware.

Despite the CD-era length, there is no audible compromise to the sonics. This is the definitive way to hear this record. Fantastically textured, exquisitely beat up, broken music. What an artist, what an album.

Edited one year agoI am gleaning here praise for the original 1992 vinyl issues of Bone. But, still, they all had to have been compromised by the sheer over-cramming of tracks onto one LP, no? I'm slightly skeptical of the praise, although I would nevertheless jump at the chance to snag a UK & Europe or Europe issue, but only if at an affordable price. Alas, I just can't afford the prices here or on fleaBay.
So I ask: so far, wouldn't the original (U.S.) CD mastered by Robert Ludwig, going for $5 today, be the one to beat? Or has the high resolution file bested the CD? -
At 54’ running time this is too long for 2 sides of vinyl, yet the 2023 reissue is still only on 1 record, this cries out for a 2 LP 45rpm version.
I’m lucky enough to have found a NM copy of the original but I’d buy a 2 LP version like a shot! -
Tom’s 12 July ‘23 newsletter: The good - Universal will reissue his Island Records catalog ~ Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, Frank’s Wild Years, Bone Machine, and The Black Rider ~ on CD and on vinyl this Fall. Limited edition coloured vinyl options, too. The bad - the remastering is, again, being overseen by Tom and Kathleen Brennan. Expect the same veiled, shaved-highs sonics as presented in the Asylum reissues.
Update: Chris Bellman digitally remastered from the original tapes. Good chance these remasters will sound better than the Asylum catalog reissues. -

Edited 2 years agomy 15 year quest to add this to my collection ended today. wasn't cheap, but it's an incredibly nice (nm) copy. but having the OG feels amazing. it's not just collectable, it also sounds amazing. really great sense of space and detail. i will still continue to hold out hope that it someday gets a nice reissue (VMP, RSD, etc.) but i think the tapes might have been lost in the universal fire in 2008.

If it doesn't have a printed inner sleeve on hard stock don't buy it ... Discogs doesn't allow the sale of bootlegs/fakes so they get sold on the originals page. Ask the seller about the inner sleeve...
-
If it doesn't have a hard printed inner sleeve its 99% the unofficial version ...the unofficial sleeve is just a white paper sleeve.

I see no difference between this uk copy and the uk/ euro copy. If I new what to do I would call for a merge!. If anyone can see a difference please explain!.
