a "naughty" breakbeat release, who would have expected this?
competent produced jungle / early breakcore frenzy. -
All the Steve Shit releases on White Breaks are awesome, frankly - but this one might be my favourite, specifically for the tune "Cummin After Ya Ass". It starts with a half-speed hip-hop style break, with some sinister pads...which then doubles in pace, before the tune drops properly, with some heavy amens and bass so heavy it sometimes made my needle skip. (To be fair that was more a sign I needed new needles, but even so...). I've even heard DJ Vince use this as an intro to a hardcore techno set and it sounded perfect there too.
The rest of the EP is equally solid - although it's from 1995, it feels much more like 93 darkside, with frantic breaks, loads of hoovers - and the P influence is in force with sinister pads and weird droning FX. And they never stay still enough to get boring. Even though most of Miro's extensive catalogue is more 4/4 kickdrum-oriented, I honestly think his White Breaks releases are amongst his best work, by far.
