"Toccata" - an adaptation of Ginastera's 1st Piano Concerto, 4th Movement.
This is the actual first UK release of the album, and it was pressed in the USA by Atlantic Records at Speciality Records Corporation (SRC logo on runout: large S with R and C in the loops).
This 1st pressing was released on November 19, 1973 in both the US and the UK at the same time.
US copies had F stampers on both sides, UK copies had G stampers on both sides.
The US disc and the Atlantic "Rock 4" inner sleeve were imported back into the UK and housed in the UK first edition sleeve with the catalogue number K53501 on rear and spine and Manticore logo distributed by WEA Records Ltd on rear.
Later issues were printed with a Manticore/WEA catalogue number. Original pressing comes in a fold out jacket and a poster.
Below the Manticore logo, there is a misspelled "Manicore" on rear. That was corrected already on the first, non-hybrid, 100% made in the UK Brain Salad Surgery release, which had vinyl made in the UK and presented also the fold out jacket and the poster.
Original cover painting by H. R. Giger by arrangement with the House Of Ideas, Zurich.
Published by Manticore Music Ltd., BMI except "Toccata" - Boosey & Hawkes, ASCAP
Runouts are etched except for 'SRC' which is stamped.

Such a bullshit. It is clearly a USA pressing. Nothing UK cat number on the pictures, or matrix numbers shows at all.

There are two versions of the foldout poster which came with this, each featuring a noticeably different photo of Keith Emerson. Does anyone have any details/knowledge of this ? Both of my early copies feature the same photo of KE on the poster (the one illustrated above on this page), so I'm presuming it's possible to assume which photo came later.

Edited 4 years agoA lot like finding a take out container in the back corner of the fridge, sometimes you gotta take a whiff and survive it.

Edited 4 years agoHaving trouble finding my exact copy.
Clearly has K 3501 on the record label but Made in .
Side A has K-53501-A-6X
Help appreciated. -
Anyone else think this album has one of the worst album covers ever? They should've used the back cover imagine instead imo.

I have a green label, Manticore Records Limited, 1973, although it has R-123913-A stamp on Side 1 and also on deadwax, Side 2 has 123913-B similarly, think it is a RCA Music Services stamp..
MC 66669
Has St-MC-732991 and 992 runout for labels on Side 1 and 2, respectively
Cannot find this version exactly, hope someone knows more details on this, thanks

Is there anywhere a misprint like I have? The picture part of the sleeve is mounted upside down, therefore the opening is on the bottom. The record opens also in a window manner, and all inserts are included. It is the initial German BSS Manticore release.

I have one copy with the Matrix / Runout (Side A runout etched): ST-MC-732991-F (Large S with R and C in the loops) AT and Matrix / Runout (Side B runout etched): ST-MC-732992-H 1-3 (Large S with R and C in the loops) AT. Bought many years ago from an english Ebay seller.
