Edited 2 years agoEasily my fav posthumous 2Pac album. Much better than the rushed but still praised “The Don Killuminati (The 7 Day Theory)”.
Afeni Shakur picked out some heat for this one! “Open Fire” is crazy and why it was scrapped while ‘Pac was still around I’ll never understand. “Thug Style” over a reggae riddim is another highlight on a very strong A-side.
Side B is more mellow but equally dope, zero skips. C-side continues the triumph. My top picks here is the not so subtle “F**k All Y’all”. And the Poetic Justice rerun “Definition of a Thug N**ga”.
D-side and onwards is when you start to notice an unfortunate decline in quality, some of these ts doesn’t quite feel like fully fleshed out songs, they have a demo-ish vibe to them. This does not mean that the final stretch of this 3LP is all bad. It’s just further between the dope tracks.
Lovely “Do For Love” for example is directly followed by should have been left in the vault material “Enemies With Me”. The hip-hop version of “I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto” is another highlight. All things considered, this is a really dope posthumous project. Top 4 from Tupac’s entire discography, dead or alive. Rest In Peace King!
