So you want to distinguish the 2004 OG version from the recent 2023 reissue? Here’s how. Look at the main sticker on the front, inspect the white line that says “The New Album”. On the OG that line also has catalogue number printed within it. The reissue does not. You’re welcome!

Edited 6 years agoThis album is a monster! Mos Def is super lyrical. Conscious and witty. “Put your hand down youngin’ this is not for you.” Mos Def

when this came out? When you rushed down to the record store rejoicing that the mighty Mos had returned? You were happy for him because he landed some noteworthy "acting" gigs. However, he--finally--was back in the recording studio. Back to grace us with another classic, in the face of the ever-budding glamor Puffy fueled mainstream garbage. Then, when you got home, and listened to the album a few times....you realized something had clearly changed. There is enough turn up the volume material to keep this on the record shelf but it is also apparent that "Black Dante" already had put down the microphone by the time this album was released.
