Edited 10 days agoYou would think since it was cut at the same place for the OG (Sterling), this would sound damn good, or even close on par with the OG. nope. some tracks feel compressed, fuzz on right channel for a few tracks. heck if memory serves correctly. those 2011? remasters by stan getz sounded much more lively. Yet still to this day i haven't heard anything that tops the original sterling.

Just picked up a copy of this record at Wally World today. The vinyl pressing itself plays super quiet and comes in a poly lined sleeve
The record was so clean I didn’t wash it and it played flawlessly quiet. Can’t say this is the definitive pressing because I have no comparisons. Playing on a Luxman PD151 Lyra kleos XL I out to Focal Kanta 2 speakers and it’s been a very enjoyable sonic pleasure. Pick up a copy if you see it in the big box store you’ll like it -
Edited 29 days agoMy 2023 foil cover sounds better than this. Pretty disappointing pressing for me. Everything but the vocals blends together. Muddy.

Edited 29 days agoI’ve got the US Red Smoke RSD pressing and the matrix is closer to the one above vs the Discogs listing for the actual US RSD Red pressing. I’ve got Masterdisk and SH in the deadwax.

Edited 29 days agoI’m not sold on the mastering, my phonostage optical and ears are hearing certain songs with more over-compression than others. The best part of these recordings IMO “Chamberlain’s drums”are getting buried under 200 Hz and below bass guitar and buzzsaw distortion. My cassette copy had a lot more dynamics and separation in the mix master. The packaging is nice but the discs are razors and cut readily through the provided poly lined sleeves. Wish there was a lyrics sheet it’s a little sad the I have that nagging voice in my head to secure a NM OG cassette or CD copy to get those Chamberlain blasts back. The price is pretty decent for this vinyl copy though. Who is responsible for the remaster? I believe I see an “SH” etched in all run outs except for Record 1 side A

Edited 26 days agoGreat mastering, subpar pressing. I preordered so I didn't realize it was Memphis Record Pressing, but it's what you can expect from them. Scuffs, scratches and dings. The most impressive was a 1 inch scratch that didn't pop at all. The least impressive was the small gouge that is the size of a pen head that manages to pop 4 times. Still, the mastering is great, I got it for pretty cheap, and it has the original artwork. Not terrible for a budget pressing.
Edit: I have no other copies to compare, so keep that in mind when I say I thought it was great mastering. Others above seem to have different views and would know better than me in comparison. It also is a quieter mastering, but I have no problem with that. That usually means less compression, which I'm more than OK with.
