Love the music! Bought this album from the hype and I’ve been hooked.
My copy doesn’t have skips but it has SO much surface noise. Lots of pops and crack sounds which disturb a lot of the softer moments on the album like A House In Nebraska. I even played it on another friends TT, cleaned over and over.
Even after the cleaning though the surface noise is there. I’m a huge audiophile (I look for clean sound with my records) so even the soft surface noise on Gibson Girl and Ptolemaea makes want to stream them.
If you’re someone who doesn’t mind surface noise this pressing isn’t bad. On the first listen I loved it, and the highlights are moments where the band kicks in on heavier songs like Family Tree, the surface noise wasn’t noticeable because it was new music.
The sound is dynamic, I just wish it was more atmospheric for a vinyl record. It’s a first pressing from an independent artist label so I’m hoping they’ll figure out how to reduce the surface noise and make it sound cleaner for future pressings.
The poster is really tiny and flimsy. There’s no lyric booklet which would be great for the songs. So there’s nothing special about this indie exclusive other than it having the sticker and poster. This was the only copy my record store had or else I would’ve just got a standard copy. As someone who likes collectible records though it’s a cool game edition.
I’d rate this pressing a 6.5/10. You can hear the audio it’s just surface noise that’s my biggest issue. This has the potential to sound amazing on vinyl, just not this pressing. I notice a lot of Ethel fans aren’t buying this for the sound though so if you’re not worried about subtle noise pops and hisses this could be a great pressing. -
This pressing didn’t have the oomph that I hoped it would, but overall, I’m still satisfied. If there was any major surface noise or pressing defects, I didn’t hear any on my copy. Just glad to finally have an important record on vinyl!

Edited one month agoWell the first vinyl has alot of surface noise considering it has songs with very quiet moments. The second vinyl is warped slightly and it's just annoying that I've waited ages for this release on vinyl.

I do wish that there was a insert with the lyrics as they're a central part of the album but it's wonderful to finally have this album on vinyl

Sounds absolutely amazing! I was skeptical given the track lengths but there's no distortion. There's a little bit of crackling, but it adds to the atmosphere overall. I really can't believe we actually got this lol

One of the best sounding vinyls I’ve ever bought! You’d think mainstream artists would have pressings as good as this.

Edited one month agoI'm so happy this finally got a vinyl release. It sounds very good, which was a surprise considering how thin and light the vinyl feels. Very clear, flat and a bit quiet. It's not as rich as it could be, but I'm pretty happy.
Also, I absolutely love the packaging, the gatefold art is great in particular. I wish the poster was of better quality, but it's a nice touch to have the missing poster. -
Ethel Cain is my current music obsession, I never get sick of listening to this album and so much more of her music. Preachers Daughter is a true work of artistic expression. Can’t wait to see her live at Radio City Music Hall in September!

packaging was overall very good. there was a small split at the top of the front and one of the corners was ever so slightly pushed down, but it's not worth returning over that. i think it might have just been manufactured and sealed like that. i do wish that the record jackets had some artwork on them, though. and i wasn't expecting the front and back to not be glossy... it was almost like paper. i'm very happy that i own this on vinyl but i wish her label/distribution/whoever's in charge would allocate more of the budget to have things be just a bit prettier. but regardless, i'm grateful that we even have a vinyl release in the first place.
