+1 for a noisy, over compressed mess of an LP. I really like the songs but like many Cure records it's over mixed. Drums sound and mix are unnatural and the keys are fighting with everything. I was hoping the half speed master would be less squashed than the digital but nope. Sides C and D and slightly better but there still audible surface noise throughout. Maybe I just got a bad press...

Reddit discussion suggested this was at 45RPM but small print on each label clearly shows 33 1/3.

I’m very happy to have this! I did a deep clean and it’s nearly dead quiet. As others have said, Robert likes to compress the heck out of things. If you can accept that this is a really enjoyable listen. HUGE low end and this really does shine compared to the single lp. 4/5 stars.

Just received my copy today, and what an album. Sounds so dynamic from beginning to the end. No distortion, no pops and crackles. Did give a good brush and cleaning before playing. But was worth it. Highly recommend this version. Just one man’s opinion. It’s a masterpiece of an album.

i took my time , months already to make an statement , but it s not good for me .. i was so happy on the half mastered version , and the possibility of listening to such amazing record with xtra quality , spent my $$ on it , and I feel like a looser tbh .. sound is really bad .. i have 2000 records , and I am a musician , trust me , no worth at all to spend xtra money on this

I keep going back and forth on this one.
It does sound notably different than the grey marble Bernie cut (which I also own). Apart from the obvious increase in volume, the Double LP also has a small, but notable clarity improvement, and somewhat improved separation of the instruments, but as others have mentioned there's a notable vocal distortion on the last song of each side, which in my experience becomes more pronounced at lower volumes. It's not bad by any means, and can absolutely sound great at points, but the distortion ultimately detracts from the listening experience in my case.

I think I have to recommend the Bernie cut overall in of quality, unless you really want the gatefold (which is awesome to have, to be fair)

Has anyone suffering with fuzzy distortion (particularly notable on A2) had better luck with a second copy? I'm struggling to see how it could be a pressing defect but if some/most do not have this issue it's either a defect with my copy or an incompatibility with my system. I'm using a microline stylus (VM540ML), what are others using that are hearing this issue?

                    Awesome record.
Plus, as side 4 is *just* ENDSONG so I can play it over and over and over.

The album itself is a remarkable masterpiece and arguably the best album of 2024. However, this 2LP version is severely lacking in sound quality—I can’t speak for other releases, but this one was a huge disappointment. Listening to this vinyl for the first time was underwhelming, and I sincerely hope to find a better-sounding version in the future.
