Sounds fantastic to my ears. And yes, this is a 30 dollar record in Japan. By no means should it have to have some sort of deluxe treatment, but this is about as good as it gets. Thick tip on sleeve, quiet, flat records, and an impeccable sound to boot. As far as I’m concerned anything else is overkill. Incredible album, RIP Nujabes.

While I’m not rating Modal Soul itself, which remains an all-time classic, this particular release is a letdown. For $60, the 2-disc set feels underwhelming: thin inner sleeves, no outer cover, and zero extras. There’s no booklet, no added content—nothing to distinguish this release from previous editions. It’s hard to understand what makes this a “Limited Edition,” aside from the price tag.
Rest in beats, Nujabes.
