Sandwell District – Sandwell District

Totally different from the vinyl version but equally as impressive!! Worth owning just for the Silent Servant version of Immolare alone. Great stuff..

The tracks are pure quality, no other way to put it. See Silent Servant's 2012 album "Negative Fascination" for something similar to this - dark, industrial techno landscapes.

Immolare (Function Version) is actually a combination of the A1 track on "Feed Forward" 2xLP [SD2X12" 01], the A tune on "Feed Forward Versions" [SDSMP3] and the final ambient age found on the B side of the bonus 7" you received with the 2xLP "Feed Forward" album.
Grey Cut Out (Version) is to my knowledge a new take on the vinyl version, where it's the B1 track.
Blood Tide (Regis Mix) is the B2 track on "Sandwell District (Sampler Single Two)" [SDSMP2], and there it is titled "Female – (Regis Edit)".
Hunting Lodge (Live) is the same version which appears on "Feed Forward Test Session" [SDLPLIVE1]. There, it's the A side track.
Falling The Same Way (Version) is basically identical to the B side tune on "Feed Forward Versions" [SDSMP3], with one exception: on that release, the track fades out just before the seven minute mark, while here it lasts for approximately three minutes more, which is - obviously - great.
Svar (Live) is the same version which appears on "Feed Forward Test Session" [SDLPLIVE1]. There, it's the B side track.
Silent Servant – Untitled (Regis Edit) is the B1 side track on "Sandwell District (Sampler Single One)" [SDSMP1]. There, it is titled Silent Servant - Regis Edit.
Regis – Untitled is the B2 side track on "Sandwell District (Sampler Single One)" [SDSMP1]. There, it is titled Unknown Artist – Untitled, and it was presented as a hidden track.
Speed And Sound (Z/ARTS Lab Version) is a slightly reworked and extended version of the D2 track on "Feed Forward" 2xLP [SD2X12" 01].
Immolare (Silent Servant Version) is a reworked version of the A2 track on "Feed Forward" 2xLP [SD2X12" 01].

Despite the fact half of this CD has been available either before or after the release of the "Feed Forward" album, you shouldn't be fooled and miss out. As if the world already now isn't packed with teary eyed frustrated listeners who let the 2xLP slip right out of their hands, make a smart move and secure a copy.
The remaining tracks, reworks of the original album tunes, are - and make no mistake - great. Not only are they great, but this might be your last train to catch a glimpse of what the album sounds like. Alternate version, remixes, re-takes, call them what you want, but a broad vocabulary can barely alter the facts here: a lot of these tracks were previously available exclusively on vinyl, they weren't distributed through online digital shops, so a CD which captures the Sandwell District crew's activity during the past twelve months or so is compulsory, even for those who already have the vinyl.
Thing is, not a single track featured on here can be found on the vinyl, and it works vice versa as well. The touching and melancholic beauty of the fifth and the tenth track are multiple stab wounds right through your heart, the broken beat, submarine and thrumming feel of Blood Tide is pure undergound fire, while the live recording of Hunting Lodge is a deep, rolling and majestic excursion into the steepest corners of contemporary techno. As if it all stopped there...
Personally, I'd recommend getting this namely to those who either didn't get the opportunity to purcahse last year's album, or those who are eager to finally find out what all the hype is about. This compact disc is still widely available, for a seriously accessible price, but don't rely on the hope that it'll be like that for too long.
First and foremost, for a lot of people, this is as close as they will ever get to grasping the sound of the original tracks, and secondly, no matter how you look at it, this is a compact disc with ten quality pieces of music on it, courtesy by one of the most talented and in demand collectives around at the moment. Missing out on this one twice would mean there is something seriously wrong with you. No no, not me, I'm alright man!
The packaging isn't as nearly as memorable as the vinyl one was, but then again let's just say it's all about the music. No artistic booklets, bonus tracks, badges - whatever. This is a treat in a strictly musical sense. If you want something extra, then go to your local candy shop for some Oreos. So far in 2011, this is as good as they come. Quality through and through, as one would come to expect from the SD clique.

Awesome Dub/Techno/ and the second half slowly moving towards Techno/Ambient. One of the best compilations this year so far.
