I Robot...
The story of the rise of the machine and the decline of man, which paradoxically coincided with his discovery of the wheel... And a warning that his brief dominance of this planet will probably end, because man tried to create robot in his own image.

I just received mine direct from Mofi, #109/10000 this week. It had none of the QC issues and just a slight bit of surface noise here and there. It sounds just as great as this album always sounds so no disappointment at all with that. I went ahead and compared to my OG copy that I bought in '77 and my '79 Japanese pressing, both in super NM condition. Conclusion: They all are great and it just may not be possible to improve on the OG. It's that good and the Japan version is right there with it. I'm still glad I bought it because the overall package is beautiful and it's nice to have one brand new that sounds as good as the original, but I can't say it does anything better. I have some new gear coming so I will revisit then, to see if this is all constrained by my current middle of the road system.
-
yes but the 45rpm version is no longer listed on the motif site, so is it still in the list for pressing ?
i really want this version but will purchase the 33/13 if it is not, any help on this please. -
This or the MOFI 45 RPM? Can’t find any comparison (As a side note I really don’t care about the 33rpm “convenience”)

Came real dirty for some reason, took multiple cleanings to get it to sound the way it should. Overall nice dynamic sound and very good music.

QC is an issue, especially at this price point. I actually had to request a replacement. But once I did, all was good. The LP sounds fantastic, bright, detailed, and has great dynamics. And you get the added benefit of longer play with 33-1/3 rpm. I own several 45 rpms but find that for me, I need to really, really love the album to warrant the extra hassle that comes with a 45. I'd leave that to Eye in Sky, which I personally prefer. As for the "over-mofied" comments, there is certainly truth in that. But I actually like it, especially for this "robotic" type of music. In summary: the album is too expensive and QC is an issue, but if you're looking for superb sound at 33rpm, this is absolutely it if you get a good copy.

Edited 2 years agoI am new to Mofi one step, and I am not impressed. The disc was so badly dome warped, I did not even play it. Never seen anything like this before. The disc also had scratches. This did not happend during shipping, but left the plant in this condition. These records are marked as products, but resemble something you may find at a fleamarket for $1. I also bought a few other of the new Mofi one step titles, and those were in the same poor condition. Unplayable due to being badly dome warped. So it was not just one rotten egg in the basket. I regret buying these, I will never again buy any of the One step products.

Am i the only one who is unimpressed??? Mine is dish warped and slightly off centre... now, theres no way this has happened in the packaging/storage due to the nature of said packaging so someones signed it off as such. Its also too noisy for the claimed quality of the vinyl. Honestly my MOV copy is better on these fronts and sounds so good it renders this pointless even if maybe the Mofi has a 5% better sound. Maybe the 45rpm will be better, for sure it will be more dynamic but then again if i want a dsd file maybe i should use common sense, spend a quarter of my money and snag the SILENT background sacd. The MOFI 1 steps are suprisingly often defective for me having been through 2x Thrillers and 1 Tapestry im adding this to the "unacceptably poor especially for the somewhat silly money" pressing

A great release of this album. Wasn’t sure about it at first, had to turn it up a bit more than normal which is sometimes the case with MoFi stuff but when I did it came alive! Very dynamic and engaging, I’m convinced anyone who found this to be thin and lifeless must not have given it the extra volume it needed to really shine.

Absolutely fantastic. Great package and sounds just phenomenal. Compared to my original 77’ release I think the mofi sounds much brighter, less distorted and you can hear every instruments better overall even though I had to dial the volume up a bit as you often have to do with mofi records. I don’t care about mofi gate, what they did with this record is really great in my opinion. Worth the money for me. Also dead quiet if properly washed and no scratches.

I received mine 005103 , but it was covered with dust and two audible scratches on the last two tracks of side 1. Besides that there are wipes over the record.
I think an employee at mfsl didn't have his best day.
Update : the vendor changed it for a new item and this one is as it has to be.
