Details from MOFI site::
Instead of utilizing the industry-standard three-step lacquer process, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's new Ultradisc One-Step (UD1S) uses only one step, bying two processes of generational loss. While three-step processing is designed for optimum yield and efficiency, UD1S is created for the ultimate in sound quality. Just as Mobile Fidelity pioneered the Ultra High-Quality Record (UHQR) with JVC in the 1980s, UD1S again represents another state-of-the-art advance in the record-manufacturing process. MFSL engineers begin with the original master tapes and meticulously cut a set of lacquers. These lacquers are used to create a very fragile, pristine UD1S stamper called a "convert." Delicate "converts" are then formed into the actual record stampers, producing a final product that literally and figuratively brings you closer to the music. By skipping the additional steps of pulling another positive and an additional negative, as done in the three-step process used in standard pressings, UD1S produces a final LP with the lowest noise floor possible today. The removal of the additional two steps of generational loss in the plating process reveals tremendous amounts of extra musical detail and dynamics, which are otherwise lost due to the standard copying process. The exclusive nature of these very limited pressings guarantees that every UD1S pressing serves as an immaculate replica of the lacquer sourced directly from the original master tape. Every conceivable aspect of vinyl production is optimized to produce the most perfect record album available today.

In July 2022, three Mobile Fidelity mastering engineers were interviewed and itted that most One Step releases were transferred to DSD digital for mastering purposes, so the One Steps may not be 100% analog transfer from the original or copy master tapes.

        Corrected from the profile above;
        In July 2022, three Mobile Fidelity mastering engineers were interviewed and itted that ALL One Steps were transferred to DSD digital for mastering purposes, so the One Steps are not a One Step - They're all Two Step Digitals !!!

          So with their files they can essentially press as many of these as they want. Ive honestly never heard one of these one steps but if its true and these are indistinguishable from analog or better then id hope they would have the brains to quickly change their business model to mass production. I would like to hear one of these at a reasonable price.

            It will be fascinating to see how the big revelation effects the sale prices of MFSL LPs. Audiophiles have been praising the One Steps. Now that we know it's a 4 X DSD copy that all these are based on, what will they do? We saw Fremer and that German guy that slobbers on him have their "clutch the pearls" moment on Youtube, which was priceless. I am entertained as is, but if it means I can buy the Marvin Gaye and Donald Fagen One Steps at a decent price, I'll be super happy. I, for one, don't care that it's based on digital files. These One Steps sound fantastic!

              I would wait until this "ULTRA Digital 2Step" rumor is clarified, before I spend money to mofi...

                Michael Jackson’s Thriller out November 2022. It’s going to be huge. 33rpm single disc one step.

                  Van Halen ???!!! - are you kidding me ? How embarrassing for Mofi - what a waste of resources and nothing but a money grab for some of most stoopid music ever made - must have got a good price on the licensing.......very bad choice MoFi, who's gonna buy this pap ? Not an audiophile with any taste for good music, that's for sure - but there will be the flippers, wonder how long it will take to flip and make any money at all ? A long time, I will guarantee you, compared to the rest of the UD1S issues - and aside from the first album, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for these to sell out...It'll be great to see if they can't sell them all, and offering them at a reduced price.......!

                    Look at the catalog numbers.. Large jumps between UD1S 2-016 and UD1S 2-024... Surprises I wonder or canceled pressings?
