Edited 2 months agoGot this two years ago and just listened out of curiosity, it's the only one I got from this serie since I already bought the ones I missed in 2014.
Packaging is great, records are centered, flats and more or less silent (not japanese press silence but not bad either)
Mastering is very low volume and overall in my opinion is very bad. Even if I turn up volume some instruments are still buried in the mix and it has no low end..just a messy big middle range.
I have a quad electronics preamp and it works very well.
Then I tried my 2021 pixel with YouTube music free and Xiaomi piston and it sounds great lol, it's 200 euro gear vs 3k.
Happy to finally have this but unfortunately it's just a beautiful object.
5 stars fot packaging and 1 for mastering -
Edited 2 years agoDon't be afraid to buy the red vinyl. Mine came thru flat, clean and quite and sounds great on lp. Didn't even require a cleaning. As a matter of fact, most of my Savatage reissues have been just fine. There will always be those who bitch about perfection. Just buy the CD then. Great album by overlooked 80-90s metal band. You can definitely feel the transition to TSO on this one especially with the classic Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24 included. Loved the fact that Stevens and Oliva share vocals and Jon's keyboards really shine here. Throw in that you get a multi page booklet, a cool gargoyle tour poster (only available with the red vinyl) and an long awesome live bonus track plus great artwork and you have one of the best reissues for 2022. So glad the band is releasing their entire catalog on vinyl.

Great album, horrible pressing. Noisy, crappy vinyl. Pops and clicks on both discs.
Most of these Savatage reissues have been crap. What a shame.
