Im amazed AP signed this off. The tape used for this (and the SACD) is struggling badly with alot of flutter and too many drop offs. Add to this the lack of bass and duller transients vs the cheap recentish OJC and all thats left is a quality slice of quiet vinyl in a lovely glossy tip on jacket. To me the sound, mastering and tape itself render this my least favourite listen of Relaxin' ever. My OJC cd, my OJC vinyl and my UHQCD all sound better and dont have tape issues.

I have all five KPG cuts from these three sessions between 1955 and ‘56 and I can’t decide whether AP/QRP or Craft/RTI is the superior production. They seem like they come from the same Staughton-jacketed series. Mono KPG lacquers pressed by QRP and RTI continually top each other. Remarkable. And I’m listening on a stereo Hana ML. Definitely no need here to try to improve the experience any by spending on a mono cart. Very impressive pressing here.

Musically an amazing album that’s also from the sonically side and production wise a total pleasure

I also own the first mono pressing of this recording in NM condition and in direct comparison this AP reissue sounds MUCH better! Much more dynamic, much more presence of the instruments, much more clarity, a room filling sound! Coltrane's sax is a direct hit in your face!
Sounds like a curtain has been opened!

Also the cover is well made, thick sturdy cardboard and shiny tip on lamination.

Imo this is the best version of this legendary record you can get! I love it! ❤️

Another gem from Miles, produced by the AP - this one is truly a Jazz gem. I put it on last night, then spun it again 3 more times...just couldn't get enough of it. The more you listen to it the more it pulls you in and takes over you. Thank you Chad for another brilliant production.

Sound is very very good for the most part, though I did hear some "drop-off" (hope that's the right term) on a couple of tracks. I'm old enough to have had albums on cassette tape as a kid/teen, and it sounded like after a cassette would be eaten by the cassette deck. If I were to carefully re-wind the tape back onto the reels, the sound on the tape would have this kind of quality to it, which leads me to believe there has been some damage to the original master tape. A shame as it's a killer album. The jacket is beautiful and sturdy, and the vinyl is super quiet, so I'm grateful for this pressing regardless of any minor shortcomings. Overall 8/10 for me.

How anyone could listen to this pressing and not be impressed baffles me.

I own several copies of this record from a 60s US repress to a 70s Japanese pressing and to the (overpriced) Craft Small Batch. This AP pressing is my new favorite.

With the recent re-pressing of many AP Prestige series titles, I now have all but two of them. The entire series is a AAA tour de force IMO. You can't go wrong with any of them at the $40 asking price.

You do probably need at least an elliptical stylus to hear the difference between this and a CD though. With a decent micro line or shibata stylus it is pure magic.
