I want to punch the vinyl everytime there's a quiet part. Surface noise quite present, like many others have described. Not long until I give up on mass-produced vinyls in favour of CDs, such is the amount of zero QC I've been experiencing. And in this case, Steven is a massive vinyl collector and it still happens so what hope is there for the rest of the industry? I guess he might be an even bigger collector of money.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO (w/ Ortofon 2M BLue) > QED Reference cables > Cambridge Audio Alva Duo > CXA81 > QED XT40i cables > KEF LS50 Meta -
My copy in solid white has different disc weights with disc 2 (C/D) noticeably heavier than disc 1 (A/B). After weighing them on a fine scale it turns out that disc 1 has ~170g whereas disc 2 has ~200g. Found that to be quite peculiar, even though there are no noticeable listening differences between the two. Other than that it's a good quality pressing with no pops or surface noise and needless to say that the album itself is excellent, from music to mastering to overall concept.

Cover is loaded with annoying acronyms. Never Have is not included here why? No doubt a very good record. Horrible pressing loaded with pops and surface noise. I'm forced to buy the cd

I wish they wouldn't put double LP's in single sleeve jackets. Gatefolds are great for that and have been for a while.

My copy is excellent. No noise and is of the quality you’d expect from a PT/SW record. Shame it isn’t gatefold.

Edited 2 years agoThe album itself is truly great. It's a perfect blending of past PT sounds, some of Wilson's solo albums, all modernized and brought together to form a solid and cohesive record. It's a shame that the pressing is garbage. The mastering itself is good, but the vinyl quality really ruins the listening experience. I've given my copy two deep wet cleans on my vacuum machine, and it still has some ticks. The biggest issue is non-fill at the end of sides B and C. I'm not sure if the black vinyl is any better, but hopefully so.
If you're in the market for the best vinyl edition of this album, the 3xLP cut at 45RPM is far superior in both pressing quality and overall sound.
My Setup:
Pro-Ject 6 Persepx SB Turntable
Hana ML Cartridge
McIntosh MP100 Preamplifier
Line Magnetic 216ia Power Amplifier
Klipsch R-820F Speakers -
Musically this is a great album, fine songs and awsome musicians.
This is one of thise albuns that will get even better over time.
The production and mastering is superb, only downside is its a little crackly even after a full wet clean on my RCM -
