Edited 2 years agoReally satisfying packaging and pressing of a really mediocre album. I had the import CD way back in the day, and getting this RSD release brought happy memories flooding back. But, even as a huge Blur fan, I find it incredibly difficult to muster much enjoyment when listening to these very of-their-time remixes.
The John McEntire "remix" of Theme From Retro is the standout. The William Orbit mixes are solid, but there's too many of them. The Adrian Sherwood mixes are not particularly inventive, and again why are there multiple remixes from one producer? The Moby mix is just plain boring. Thurston Moore's choice to include a capella sections of Damon's poem in Essex Dogs is fun though. -
It could be perfect on black wax but a third record more on clear/transparent vinyl with The Peel Session could be a masterpiece.

With hindsight, the John McEntire remix of Theme From Retro opened so many musical doors for me. It's still one of my favourite ever mixes.

I bought the CD back in 1998 and it also has the Peel Acres Sessions which sadly are not in this release. It’s a pity because all it needed was one more disc!

Edited 3 years agoMind blowing remixes to be honest, I picked this one up because I felt RSD was so light for me this year and I had to pick something more than the traditional Czarface and the mandatory Pinkpantheress, but honestly the tracks are amazing, and the pressing is terrific, never heard such noises on my system lol

This release is packaged amazingly and sounds stunning. The remixes on this album are so much fun to listen to and very enjoyable!! If you do get this please open it to the records are right, I got mine and it had two side c/d which is a very common manufacturing mistake but for a rsd release which will probably go up in price it's good to !!

Surprisingly, given how much they get scalped, I’m surprised I found a copy. What a lush press. The Moby Mix of Beetlebum sounds incredible. Really worth finding before it becomes scarce and as such expensive.
