This for me was the album that hit the absolute sweet spot between their earlier pop hooks and their later glacial post rock sensibility. Every track here is incredible. Not a note wasted. Great pressing; wide, expansive soundstage and pin perfect instrument separation throughout. The best band of the 80s have with The Colour of Spring produced the best album of the 80s and I'll broach no argument and will gladly die on that hill if I must. ;)

Whilst i love all the final 4 Talk Talk albums, particularly eden ... this is the one for me .

Sounds like a male Kate Bush , some Gabriel in there, bit of tears for fears ... perfect grown up pop songs, lots of ambience , 80s production in a good way .

Anybody have a quiet copy? Have bought at least six first presses so far and they all crackle. This is a major issue on Chameleon Day as it’s so quiet. Just picked up a 2nd press and it plays silently… but would still like a silent 1st…

This is the band's third album, the transition album between the Synth-Pop, New Romantic, New Wave and Art Pop genres. After this album, Talk Talk continue the musical path started in recent years, which will lead them towards the musical genre of Art Rock and (anticipate) finally, the Post Rock genre, with the subsequent albums Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. - Questo è il terzo album della band ovvero l'album di transizione tra i generi Synth-Pop, New Romantic, New Wave ed il genere Art Pop. There is a DVD-Audio version of this record, published at approximately the same time as the SACD (circa 2003) by Universal.

RIP mark hollis .Was there a more distinctive voice and vision in 80's pop ?
Underated and undervalued and now gone too soon

It is a shame that the best tracks got stuck on b-sides, while "I don't believe in you" and "Give it up" got included on the album.

The perfect b-side of this album would be:

B1-It's Getting Late In The Evening
                  B2-April 5th
                  B3-Chameleon Day
                  B4-For What It's Worth

20 minutes of ambient art-rock bliss!

Unlike a lot of people it seems, I discovered Talk Talk with 'laughing stock' and listened my way back in their catalogue. This record doesn't have the excellence of the two later ones, but it is a VERY enjoyable listen nonetheless, halfway between their ambitious vision of modern rock and the best intentions 80s pop had to offer. 'Colour of spring' should please anyone who likes a good lead singer anyway, as Mark Hollis is one of the most gifted singers...(ever?). Have a nice day!
