Technical Notes
Home recordings were made with a Telefunken SM2c microphone on an Otari MX55 ¼" 2 Track at 15ips. Custom tube Studer A820 playback was cut directly to lacquer on a Neumann VMS 80 lathe with an Ortofon DSS 731 cutterhead. A Fairchild 670 Limiter, Barry Wolifson's M/S Decoder, and a P&G 1500 Series Stereo Fader were essential to the transfer.

Picked this up on their recent Woodland tour - sounds perfect to my ears, hardly any surface noise.

Edited 9 months agoMy copy is quiet. Balanced tonality. I do not find the mastering bright. Music is spectacular. I am not experiencing any surface noise issues as reported by a few others. -
Very quiet and flat copy, on both sides. I agree with others who say the sound is very intimate. I will replace the inner sleeve to protect the record, which had some marks across when bought new - don't really know what they were caused by. Highly recommended for lovers of this sort of music, as their other release THE HARROW AND THE HARVEST. -
I think the recording sounds very "live" and unadorned, which is great. Sadly, I have pops all through much of the B side.

After cleaning my copy with my Record Doctor, I still hear pops and surface noise on both sides, I love the music, been listening to these guys for years. Guess I need to get a copy of the cd.

Edited 3 years agoI'm actually rather disappointed with this pressing. Quite bright sounding in my opinion. Also extremely static vinyl: this one pulled my cork/rubber matt from the platter after playing both sides. That has never happened before to me with any other record! Not to mention the awful cardboard inner... -
Edited 3 years agoStellar pressing! Just blown away! Dead-flat vinyl. Excellent seperation and wonderful imaging. Lows are spot on and the mids are so clear it really is like they're in the room with you!

My copy sounds great even though it was slightly scuffed up from the printed inner sleeve. Wish they would have thrown this in a better inner. Lovely album. -
Does the Abandoned Love track cut off at the end with tape distortion on the vinyl in the same way as the audio files above? I noticed it on Spotify too.
