REPRESS! Please, you’ve got a new record coming out. So, I hope you repress the first album. -
Wenn sich drei Rockgötter aufmachen, um die Musikwelt auf den Kopf zu stellen... So, oder so ähnlich könnte die Überschrift für diese CD lauten. Da wäre zunächst Dave Grohl, der Mann der damals bei Nirvana die Drumarbeit revolutionierte. Am Mikro und an der Gitarre finden wir Josh Homme, den Kreativkopf der Queens of the Stone Age wieder, der mit seiner kehligen und eindrucksvollen Stimme sowie seinen unbeschreiblichen Gitarrenläufen überzeugt. Komplettiert wird das ganze durch den Altrocker John Paul Jones, seines Zeichens Bassist des Urgesteins Led Zeppelin. Das Ganze ergibt dann Hardrock, gepaart mit Stoner Rock und dem genau richtigen Quäntchen Blues obendrauf. Dies sollte eigentlich für jeden Rockfan als Kaufanreiz reichen. Trotzdem versuche ich noch etwas mehr zu dieser Platte zu schreiben, obwohl ich befürchte, die Review damit leider zu verhauen. Im ersten Song "No one loves me & neither do I" geht es um One-Night-Stands, deren Regeln vorher abgestimmt wurden. Der zweite Song "Mind eraser, no chaser" hätte auch gut auf eine QOTSA-Platte get, die Blaskappellentöne am Ende verstören aber ein wenig. Mit viel Blues in der Stimme trägt Josh die Selbstmordgedanken eines auf einer leeren Straße dahinfahrenden LKW-Fahrers in "Dead end friends" vor. Genau wie der Titel verrät kommt der Song "Elephants" daher, nämlich als ob eine wilde Elefantenherde aus dem Zirkus ausgebrochen wäre. Der Titel "Scumbag blues" t auch perfekt zu dem dreckigen Blues, den wir hier hören. In "Interlude with ludes" wird einem die unendliche Liebe versprochen und beim abschließenden "Spinning in daffodils" können nur Drogen mit im Spiel gewesen sein. Mehr möchte ich an dieser Stelle nicht schreiben.
Für Nirvana/QOTSA/Led Zeppelin-Fans ein Muss, für sonstige Rocker eine ernste Empfehlung. -

Edited 8 years agothis album together with 'era vulgaris' are the most mediocre music that josh homme has ever made. who cares if dave grohl, john paul jones, elvis, keith richards or whoever plays on it. it's like listening to one track throughout the album. everything sounds the same.
I was planning for some time now to listen to it. it's a long time ago that I did and I thought that I might have ''missed'' it.
but no. it still sounds boring. why? because there's actually no good tunes to back up the whole experiment.
and again... everything sounds the same.
to much production for nothing. if this was made in a ''loose'' way like the desert sessions, it would have been way better.
and yeah... Josh homme was my guitar hero and favourite composer for a long time. kyuss, qotsa, the desert sessions and even the collaboration with Iggy pop. all great.
but this....?
