Edited 4 years agoCool packaging, but it's an audible disappointment compared to other VMP records in my collection. My copy had a fair amount of surface noise, but good sound otherwise. Usually VMP will replace problems like this, however, my copy was second hand. I've yet to try the Pallas pressing, but it sounds like the way to go. I'll edit this comment if I end up trying it.

I own several VMP reissues and they’re all great, but this one takes the cake in overall presentation. The lenticular cover is awesome, the art print by Wayne and the disc color all work to impress.
As for the most important thing- the sound- it’s wonderful. Ryan K Smith at Sterling Sound has done it again. Fantastic stereo separation, soundstage and lush warm bass and crisp treble with the all important mids perfectly balanced. No surface noise issues with my copy. Perfectly flat and quiet. Huge VMP win IMO. One of my fav albums of all time and it’s been done beautifully.
As for the debate about track listings and “proper” mixes...that’s for others to debate. If I only owned one copy of the album, it wouldn’t kill me to be this one. -
Just picked this up used and "WHAT IS THIS VERSION OF "BUGGIN'?" It's a totally different mix than on my OG CD version. It's a longer build-up with more "bug" sounds and it doesn't have the punch of the original. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

Where is 1 - 2 - 3 - 4? Upon receiving the album I went straight to Side 4 for Feeling Yourself Disintergrated. It has been the favorite from this album. Such a great stereo image and channel separation it has.
First impressions was something "different" than what I .
I put the 2011 release on the deck. I don't exactly how CD sounded like. but between Slow Motion and Feeling Yourself Disintergrated. there is a sigh and 1 2 3 4 snippet on 2011. and I guess it was there on CD when it was released back then.
I was confused. and today I gave a full listen to this edition and concluded that it is not only a remastered but also the remixed.
it sounds different from 2011. like many mentioned here, you can feel you're listening this first time.
the Soundstage became huge and the sound itself is richer than ever. Some system may have a problem to accommodate this new version. it's not just a EQ boosting. Every element of this album placed in a new way I assume.
Sometimes I felt this edition too overwhelming but after several listen I can say this is the better version.
but at the same time I can understand why some prefer the previous edition. the sound scape and the concept of this album could be more fit into the previous editions. that being said, on precious mix everything was more harmonized into songs. nothing was prominent. should I say balanced? not exactly.
so for the old fans, this edition can be distracting but it is definitely better sounding than the previous.
and the 1 2 3 4 moved to Side A before Race For the Prize. this is the only part that I like the previous mix

A masterpiece album and this pressing sounds like the butter colored vinyl it’s pressed on. Probably listened to this 100x on CD and streaming and it’s a new experience with this version.
-
This album was my first from VMP, and it was also my first listening of this album......Holy Crap!!! Pure Vanilla Butter with that smooth yellow vinyl.....This has quickly become a favorite, and is definitely in heavy rotation on my system!
-
The definitive pressing of this watershed album (with the original, as intended tracklisting). Excellent package! Brilliant sound.
