After the sample changes made on the new reissue this has become THE reference version given it is the full original album, samples intact, from the original tapes remastered to proper volume and spred over 2 discs. Arguably the best sample album ever created, and certainly a classic that's integrity should be preserved

This thing sounds great, super low noise floor as others described and overall everything is clean and appropriately lively. I shelled out for a new copy of the VMP release but really don't regret it, I'll have the best sounding version (to my ears) of one of my favorite albums for all time, though I hope reissues happen to bring the price down for others.

I've been listening to De La Soul vinyl all my life and I just got this album (for a decent price) and I was blown away at how beautiful it sounds. The remastering is like magic. I'm so happy I got a copy it really does sound amazing to hear this after all these years, what difference in sound.

Edited 2 years agoI really hope no one is gullible enough to think these cheap listings are actually the VMP version. I guarantee you, every single one under $70 is just the reissue being sold as this copy. Every seller has no experience/, and this wouldn't be the first album for this to happen with

Edited one year agoI bought the VMP pressing a couple of years ago and love it. It’s nice and clean with a low noise floor and a punchy, warm mix including all of the original samples. Plus, it looks amazing!
My understanding is that the new 2023 digital release and vinyl repress of Three ft will have a number of samples from the original that did not legally clear and will be “replayed”, essentially re-recorded or even removed from the record. That should help sustain the value of this VMP pressing with all original samples intact. -
Their entire catalog is going to be made available, with 3 Feet High and Rising dropping in March. I'm hoping the quality is top notch, because I want to see these price gougers fail. Either that, or I'm hoping VMP will repress.

Strongly agree with Brother-Eye's comments below. I also have an original US pressing in good shape - it's better than the UK and European ones but can't hold a candle to the VMP edition. I've been listening to this album since it first came out so feel like I know the material fairly well now :)
Spreading the music over two discs of high quality vinyl has real benefits. The remastering works well too. Still - be interesting to check in again next month. There will soon be hi res digital copies available to stream and the band-approved reissues on vinyl too... -
I bought this preson hearing of the untimely ing of David Jolicoeur (aka Plug Two) - an incredible talent gone far too soon. I've been on a quest to acquire the definitive pressing of this seminal hip-hop masterpiece for a while now.
I usually avoid colored pressings - to me, they're the fool's gold of the vinyl resurgence. The VMP reissue is a pleasant surprise, though. It's quiet and surprisingly snappy, plus it looks great. The bass is a little dialed down, but it's a small price to pay to hear more of the nuances of Prince Paul's production.
Earlier pressings, including the BCM UK and streaming versions, have this muddy overlay and a bit of rumble in the low end — none hold up at higher volumes like this one. It's a great pressing.
