This is one of the better sounding Hip-Hop reissues VMP has put out there. It's surprising given the no frills on paper details: standard GZ cut/pressing. I guess the wax is pretty if you're into that and the jacket is a higher end quality gatefold. All things said, yes the cover picture is a bit blurry but not so much that is kills the aesthetics or anything.

But the cut captures the recording astoundingly well. Part of this may have to do with the fact that most instrumentation on the album is from, ya'know actual instruments. That aspect is a lot more present on this version than others I have heard. You get that separation between instruments and not just a "beat". The vocals are sharp, clear and seem to float on top of the mix with grace. The bass is not as rich and full as I normally like it to be with this album. In fact it's almost non-existent before some EQ'ing. For a while I complained about this because this album was really meant to be played riding around in a car, with the bass turned up. But over time I think reducing the bass actually may have been a good choice here with the cut as it makes for a more warm and deeper experience with the rest of the band. Going back to my CD I feel as though I never noticed before how much the bass engulfed the rest of the sound on the recording, so I've come to appreciate the decision. So, EQ it at home with that bass adjusted as desired. The Outro is the highlight for me.

And this is absolutely so much better than the Get On Down NRP/United reissue, which damn near goes down with Get On Down's Hell Hath No Fury as an abomination.

Also, no IGD. No sibilance (which i've experienced before especially with Pimp C). Extremely quiet for a GZ pressing. The vinyl must be on the light side of the 180g label as my discs weigh more in the 172-175g range. And yeah. blurry image. But if you're here to spin the hell out of this record you'll be extremely satisfied.

Went ahead and bought this vinyl while it was at sale. Indeed, the cover looks a bit blurry but I don't mind it at all. Love the splatter vinyl and the gatefold is a nice addition as well. My setup isn't exactly the best one, a bit quiet but the sound quality is pretty great. Needless to say, this is an essential album that every dirty south lover should have in their collection.

Mixed bag on this one, and IMO not really worth the full $36 price tag. The artwork is a pretty horrible upscale of the CD booklet (no it is not the uncoated paper stock...) compared to the Get on Down pressing which rebuilt the typographic elements on the back cover. The jacket stock itself is pretty nice, but this is a standard direct to board deal.

Sonically, it's pretty good, but really no better than the CD itself, which sounds quite similar. Vocals are clear and crisp, the low end is present but doesn't quite slam down. The pressing is largely quiet, but I do get some non-fill crackle in the run-outs of all sides. Thankfully this doesn't effect the actual play surface. If you're going to get this on vinyl, this is probably the best you could do, but considering these Vinyl Me, Please x Pitchfork releases are supposed to be , and the last one (Slowdive) was quite nice, this is a pretty disappointing second entry. Hopefully they course correct for the next release.

            Setup: SL-1700 / ATVM95ML / MoFi StudioPhono / SX-750 / ADS 500

I haven’t listened to the records yet, but I’m guessing Vinyl Me, Please did not have access to the original artwork (or it doesn’t exist). The front cover and especially the back cover look like scans...pretty blurry.
