Great pressing, totally silent. The album has always had that overproduced gated-snare tinny highs 80s sheen to it, so not sure why anyone would expect anything different?

Edited 4 months agoMy third, great sounding David Bowie re-issue. To my ears this sounds fantastic and is another pristine Optimal pressing. Rotationally the pressing is dead flat and whisper silent. (with an Ortofon 2m Black). My only quibble is a slight dish ward. So if your cartridge is sensitive to VTA settings you have to adjust to compensate.
(PS I used to have a 1983 pressing and I don't it being so clear, dynamic and engaging.) -
I do think this is a really good sounding pressing. It's dynamic, has a nice soundstage & bass... However this sounds very "polished", one can tell this was mastered digitally. Out of curiosity I got me an OG pressing too, and I agree with one reviewer that it has a much warmer sound to it. You can't really do no wrong with this reissue (unless you're a vintage vinyl enthusiast), but for me the '83 press wins :)

Terrible, lifeless, not dynamic at all. You might as well listen on the radio. I'll be looking for another version. This is a disservice to Bowie.
-
The whole digital vs analogue debate is pointless. The important thing is how well it was engineered and mastered. Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" and Joe Jackson's "Body And Soul" are 2 good examples of how great a digitally sourced LP can sound. Lessons from MoFi's secret practice of using a digital step for many years should teach us something. This Bowie release is a quiet pressing with a perfectly good soundstage. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

In my opinion the barst album by David Bowie. Every time I hear Let’s Dance, I see the video in my head where David is standing in a bar singing and the lady with her red shoes on a mountain. The pressing of this record is very good. The sound quality is also very good.
-
Pretty great sound. Obviously a digital remaster, and there’s a tiny bit of distortion at the end of Side A, but otherwise it’s good.

Not sure why no one has picked up on this but it’s painfully obvious to my ears, especially comparing to the near mint original I just picked up. This is a digital remaster. I could tell Right Away! Typical sterile and unnatural sound. It’s clean, for sure. But Too Clean. My ‘83 press (mastered by Bob Ludwig) has a Much warmer sound to it. As soon as I did my A/B comparison, I said to myself “Yep, I Knew it!”. This is fine if you want to hear a cd pressed on vinyl. No thank you
