Info regarding "Third/P3" memory stick:
(Comes sitting in a cut-out hole in a card tray about a centimetre thick.)
The Sky USB Drive is labelled "P3" when viewed on a computer. It has 1GB capacity, though the included content only fills 681MB. It contains five 4:3 aspect films in two formats, MPEG (.mpg) at 320×240 resolution, and Flash Video (.flv) at 720×576 resolution (Standard Definition in PAL broadcasting). There are two additional Flash Videos: "P3Logo" (P3 logo) and "P3USBBack" (P3 USB background).
The drive also contains the full "Third" album as 320kbps FhG (Fraunhofer Society) encoded MP3's, and an Adobe Flash Player 9.0 r115 (ver. 9,0,115,0) stand-alone program which allows you to play the 320kbps MP3's and the Flash Videos. There are also further resource files to aid the video title screen to work on both PC's and Apple Macs, and verification files for many Portishead country websites (see reason below).
In addition, when the "P3" Flash Player is played, as well as the 11 audio MP3 tracks and the 5 Flash Videos, the title screen includes a link to a website, this asks for an email address, uses files on the USB drive to ownership of a valid product, and then allows you to access additional online content (initially this was going to be from 1 July 2008, then delayed to start from 1 August 2008).
From "Third" 2 x LP's (vinyl & sleeves):
Records come in plain black inner sleeves.

From print:
(While each box set gets a single print of the same 12" size, there are many different prints across box sets.)

From Machine Gun 12" (vinyl & sleeve):
Vinyl is etched on the blank side, and comes in a plain black inner sleeve.
Vinyl grab from "Machine Gun" promo by John Minton.

(Further info: Track A1, "Silence", was originally titled "Wicca". Its opening is a sample of Claudio Campos, a Capoeira master, speaking in Portuguese. He recites an adaptation of the Wiccan precept of the "Threefold Law" which translates back to English as:
"Be aware to the rule of thirds. What you give will return to you. You have to learn this lesson. You only receive what you deserve".)

Edited one year agoI’m disappointed with this Vinyl pressing because, to my ears, the Memory Stick sounds better and it shouldn’t. I use a Michell Orbe SE turntable with SME V arm and Dynavector XX2 MKII cartridge vs Marantz SA-8003 player… I was expecting a clear win from the Vinyl and it’s the other way around. We can see a lot of marks on the Vinyl surface and we ear some small distortion that I think is due to the low quality of the pressing. I also noticed much better separation of the voice and other instruments using the Memory Stick with the Marantz. So, 5 stars ⭐️ to the MP3 files and 4 stars to the Vinyl.

So far, there is only one bit of additional content that has been made available for owners of the limited-edition box set — "Portishead at the Mayan". It is a 15-minute FLV file containing terrific live performances of "Wandering Star" and "Threads". I've talked to a couple of other people who have the USB stick, and they weren't even aware that there was any bonus content. They thought the P3 application on the USB stick was a regular Flash Player app and didn't even try to run it.
