Nobody Said It Was Easy is one of the most divisive songs ever made in Hardcore Techno, you either love it or hate it.
After the easy DJ friendly intro, the main breakdown comprises of two elements which will sway your opinion about whether this is Real Hardcore. Firstly, the vocals, which is a cover of Coldplay's The Scientist, which is where the majority of the hate comes from. If you don't like singing in your Hardcore or if you don't like Coldplay you'll probably straight up hate the song. I know Kelly from Evil Activities is a big fan of Rock Music which may explain Coldplay's appearance here. I don't like Coldplay myself, but the way Evil Activities uses the song here is very good, and if you can get Hardcore fans singing at the top of their lungs, then you're doing a good job. The second element worth noting is the incredible synth melody that really carries the track. Some people think it sounds too Hardstyle-ish but Evil Activities has been making quality melodic tunes for years, and he's damn good at it too! Me personally, I love the melody. Probably the most popular Hardcore track of 2008, and one of those tracks the ladies really enjoy, and that's always awesome!
While most people concentrate of the A-Side, they seem to forget the great track on the B-Side. Evil Activities and The Viper have done some good tunes together, so it doesn't surprise me Raw To The Floor is another banging collaboration between the two. The main breakdown has a nice Pad with a famous Run DMC sample before the epic Pan Flute styled Virus melody and heavy fuzzy kickdrums. I like how the melody is slightly remixed towards the end. Redman is one of my favourite rappers of all time, hearing his vocal sample is a nice touch. Highly underrated Millennium Hardcore.
For me, Nobody Said It Was Easy was the end of a magical period of Dutch Hardcore from 2001 to 2007, I noticed from 2008 onward the music slowly changed into a less creative direction, in fact this is really Evil Activities last great record. Regardless, this record has two great songs from Evil Activities off his equally great album, Evilution. -
'nobody said it was easy' is one of the worst hardcore tracks I ever heard. Real Hardcore is NOT commercial sound.
