Probably the best sound you could get out of the mono tapes in the condition they are in. Tons of dropouts, shrill vocals, minor distortion throughout. In of a representation of the mono master tape, it does this really well. I'd highly recommend either a US or UK first mono pressing, the vinyl is noisy, but the tape is still fresh and has no dropouts or inconstancies.

Edited one year agoSo what’s up y’all? I think this is an analogue repress. This thing sounds awesome…you have OG tape issues at the end of “love me 2 times”.
But after that…dude. Punchy and live sounding.
Best Iv ever heard all of these songs.
TML in the deadwax.
What do y’all think?
Analogue or no? -
This wasn't a great recording by most s, so this mono remaster sounds excellent as far as I'm concerned.
-
Based on the info here: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/7795
I reckon this could be considered all analogue pressing, no? Because this is a repress from the RSD version from 2015. -
Good remaster; in some tracks the bass are prominent. Not the best sounding vinyl in my collection though.
-
For thoose who complain about the lack of low end bass:
So yes, if listen and say “where’s the bass?” on the title cut and some others (though some tracks like “Moonlight Drive” have quite powerful bottom ends) and if you find the top end a bit forward but oh so clean and detailed, rest assured you’re hearing the album as intended. -
I had a listen yesterday and it sounds very, analog. Somewhat thin perhaps? But this may just be the master, and the way Bruce Botnick mastered it. And there are some odd anomalies, from the tape i guess. But its enjoyable!
-
I agree with the other reviewer who called this pressing 'lifeless', also surprising that a remaster can be so void of bass. Outside of Moonlight Drive, there is no low end to be found, even with my sub turned up. I guess if you are going for that old school car radio sound this vinyl is for you.
-
Picked this up not knowing what to expect. For the price it’s a great mono version of Strange days. The record is fairly quiet and sound is good. It may be a bit muddy in parts but again, for the price you can do worse.

Edited 3 years agoLush & Crispy 60's Mono sound! You can hear that typical Doors spooky reverb and Jimbo's voice in all its glory. I don't get the negative comments below. This is what I expect from a 1967 mono-mixed record.
