Notes

Label variant, with "SET" in all capital letters.

Gatefold cover with 44-page black-and-white booklet affixed inside gatefold.

The first issues were printed by Euro-Albums Holland B.V. and have a soft, almost pastel grey finish whereas later issues look "blacker."

On the spine of the outer cover, the first issues have the group name, album name, "Track Deluxe Double" and set number, which is 2657 013.

Very first pressings have a "delta" (▽) in each runout matrix of the four sides. Subsequent pressings have usually two "slashes" (//) in one (or two) of the runout matrix of the four sides.

First issue early pressings have predominantly "1" or "2" matrices and "1" or low-number stampers in the vinyl runoff area of each side (e.g., record 1 side A: 2406110 A ▽ 1).

Runouts are stamped, "S2-MCA 362" is etched.

Recorded at "The Kitchen" in Thessally Road, Battersea, while building was still in progress.
Ronnie "Lane's Mobile Sound" served as control room while ours was being finished.
Mixed at Eel Pie Sound.

Absolutely stellar sounding record, beats all the others to a pulp.

This is a great sounding UK pressing. The sound is fresh, punchy, airy and crispy. Stereo separation is superb.

If it helps anyone, i am a Quadrophenia nut, it's my favourite Album of all time.
the best pressing i have heard by far is the proper first UK Track release 1973, I had the Classic Records release on 200g when it first came out, I being impressed with it.

It was only within the last 5 years i did a shoot out between the original pressing with the Classic Records press and the UK original just beats it Hands Down, if you have good hearing, then trust me you will hear the difference.
I do reckon that Classic used EQ on this, as a good part of the LP is just too bright, like someone turned up the Treble setting to almost full and it gets tiring after a while.

The Japan reissue on CBS/SONY 40AP 125960 I will say is second best and easily trounces the Classic Records pressing.

I have a copy bought new in about 1974, the Matrix/Runout on my copy has etched in "WHO S1", "WHO S2", "WHO S3" and "WHO S4" and nothing else. This Matrx/Runout is not listed elsewhere.

PS Should have read further down, I have the same pressing as JOC022, I think I actually bought this at CNA in Johannesburg in 1973!!

If you can find this without a scratch; well done, but when you do, it's the most fantastic sounding pair of records....it's what your record player was made for.
I have the 2019 reissue too, which is fine, but the original jumps out the speakers or headphones. Hard to think the Classic Records release could actually be any better, if you can justify £200-300!

Hands down my favorite Who record. Goes without saying that I’m a huge fan of the movie too. What I love about this record is that I get a mental image of each scene when hearing it. I know exactly which scene goes with which song. “Love, Reign O’er Me” during the end scene is incredible, gets me a little teary-eyed every time. A beautiful masterpiece of a movie AND soundtrack. My only critique of the movie is that I never want it to end.

This record kept me sane throughout my late teens and early twenties. In my humble opinion, not only the best Who album. But the greatest rock album of all time. A masterpiece...

i just got a nm copy of this original 1973 uk classic today, i was very fussy as i wanted the sleeve & lp to be as near to mint as possible and it gets harder the older this lp gets, obvioulsy this was released in october 1973, the sleeve on this very first 73 uk press is rather thin and was printed in holland, the records of coarse where done by track uk, my booklet is attached firm and in great shape, quadrohpenia was the soundtrack to my life as well from 1978 though the 90s and still is from time to time, i just do not spin this as often, im a huge quad fan and this is one of the best works townshend ever did IF NOT THE BEST!!!!! glad to have a first edition uk press from 73 FINALLY.....
