Both this album and their first album are excellent! Which one is better? Both! I need both!
Also, I have two copies US pressings of “Hard Attack”, the gatefold, and a non-gatefold. It’s weird, Discogs says that the non-gate fold is available as both a pink and older blue Kama Sutra labels. My non-gatefold has blue labels, and it appears to have the same matrix etched into its blank runout wax. Did they run out of covers? Or use the same “plates” to press these copies made in the US? Who cares?! I love this album. And the “catacombs” cover/first LP too!
And you know that all three went into great things after this? Mark was adopted by the Ramones. Kenny became a studio musician who is on many, many hit records, and Richie became a star producer, the first two Kiss albums and more, and then moved onto movies - he’s produced the last to or three “The Transformers” films! (I bet he lives in a house that’s MUCH larger than my family’s humble abode! ;) -

I love when a record describes itself perfectly in the title. This one only needed two words: HARD ATTACK. Boy, does it live up to the name. From the Frank Frazetta artwork to the pounding drums of Marc Bell (better known as Marky Ramone, a man possessed on this record), this record is a sonic assault that lulls you into its' slower tunes before hitting you again right in the face (think the nice, floating, gentle pedal steel of "How Many Horses" right before some Blue Cheer-style fuzz guitar with "Suicide"). Highly recommended for fans of some proto-metal heavy rock n' roll akin to Black Sabbath, MC5, Atomic Rooster, and the more obscure Alamo.
