Notes
"Endless Summer" is a 1974 collection of their 1963-1966 material (all but one cut predating "Pet Sounds"). The compilation displays a number of oddities, including the inclusion of album versions of "Be True To Your School", "Help Me Ronda", and "Fun, Fun, Fun" instead of the hit-single versions, a difference which is subtle in the last case, but more prominent in the first two. Initial pressings of this album contained a poster depicting an airplane flying a Beach Boys banner. The cover artwork reflected the Beach Boys' seventies appearance.
In the USA, the double album spent 155 weeks on the Billboard album chart, peaking at #1 and selling over three million copies. Released as a double album in a gatefold sleeve in the USA, "Good Vibrations" was added to the end of "Endless Summer" in the 1980s for its CD edition. In the UK, the album was released on one album with ten songs on each side.

Got this record from my parents for Valentine's Day in 1988. Their early songs are just unmatched -- nobody else was making pop music as good at the time. Brian & Co were at the top of their game! -

The Beach Boys have never sounded better, before or since this great CD. -
Besides Sounds of Summer this is one of the best beach boy compilations released. Theres alot of songs here that are criminally underrated like “warmth of the sun” and there is a version of “Be true to you school” that’s played way better overall a good album that is worthy of checking out. -
Light of quantity (only 20 songs) – high on quality (a good number are absolute masterpieces), this is BBs ‘63-‘66 material at their fun fun, fun best as an uptempo group of partiers.
A superb pile of tunes & an amazing example of great pop music. -
Nice sound on this pressing, very full and clear. A bit of surface noise, but overall very good. -
Someone to add in notes that it was released and given for free by Greek newspaper "Espresso". -
This record is a steal! It is a great sounding, all analogue pressing (I guess that's obvious given its release date) - and still not expensive or that hard to find. I just picked up a sealed copy for 18 bucks! -
Great 1970s beach boys compilation. All the tracks are better sounding than their original LPs, and Brian's bass finally isn't buried on the earlier tracks. This RCA club cut as always sounds great and punchy. -
Edited one year agoSounds Awesome As Expected. The only flaws are that it’s missing “Good Vibrations” and the version of “Help Me Rhonda” that they use here is not the original Hit version. But…This will beat the crap out of that new comp they keep pressing “Sounds of Summer”. True analog sound and the mix hasn’t been f$#cked with lol. Find a copy of this, that’s all you need -
Edited 10 months agoThe greatest hits of the Beach Boys, pre-Pet Sounds. The artwork is kinda goofy, there's absolutely no annotation or notes or recording information, just 20 classic tunes. I have a copy of the 1978 reissue, and absolutely no complaints about the pressing. This sounds really good from the high harmonies at the top to the rich rumble of the bass down low. A few of the songs are in mono, but there's none of that dreaded duophonic (aka fake) reprocessed stereo. My copy is in great shape, with very little surface noise.
