agree with comments below this is a very good sounding cut and very good price!!! That said does anyone know if source was AAA or DSD or High rez ? -
Edited 10 months agoHis first Prestige album may not sound as urgent as his later Impulse stuff, but that was a different Coltrane. I don't think differently as a musician, but differently as a spiritually and socially oriented person. The sound of his tenor sounds relaxed but also energetic and technically very relaxing, which is also confirmed by the first composition of Bakai with the opening also relaxing and melodic solo by Garland, which is continued by Coltrane and Shihab. Coltrane is also the perfect flatterer in the romantic ballad Violets for Your Furs, where Garland also cuts his part in chordal fashion. Chambers won't stay hungry either with a delicacy in the form of a typical solo in Time Was, which I hear for the first time on this album. On the other hand, with the solos, Splawn is added, which seems a little extra to me, but I also like his trumpet tone. But in the nice While My Lady Sleeps, he waits four minutes for a nice point at the end. By the way, a very nice composition, which can also be brilliantly performed with an orchestra, as Phineas Newborn Jr. did, a few days before, on his album on RCA Victor. Splawn reminds me of Baker or Dorham in some places...Waldron is a bit spare as Garland, but beautifully Monk like in the last Chronic Blues. The sound and the record are perfect. Who knows what master it was pressed from, but it plays as if it was recorded yesterday...

Incredible fidelity on this pressing, and an incredible album - Coltrane’s first solo effort. It’s one of my favorites of all of his releases, and I love so much of his work. Highly recommended. -
Did anyone notice, that this reissue has mentioned the copyright of "craft recordngs" on its back jacket? So is it still an analogue production or is it a craft recording under the brand of AP? Has anyone information about that?

It's a very warm and dynamic pressing. Worth grabbing if possible -

How did anyone give this less than 6 stars? Any serious, non-Hellen Keller audiophile regards this pressing as the best in existence. If you disagree. PM me and I’ll buy your dropped sh*t for real $$.

No thumps in my version. The first time I played it, it was immediately post the Kenny Dorham quiet Kenny vinyl by analogue productions. The dynamics clarity and base in this vinyl was significant better than the Kenny Dorham version. Took me a bit of time but now I keep going back to this album. Splendid copy!
